Amazing place, wonderful people. Must see to truly appreciate! CAUTION on directions: do NOT attempt any alternative route your GPS may suggest. Use only the route the host recommended. Unfortunately, this wasn’t clear to us. We used the route other than the “preferred” route. Didn’t realize how precarious and narrow it was! Our small car barely made it out without damage, and the stress of getting there was too much. Also note the location is pretty random and remote. That said, it’s totally worth it. A gorgeous place with unique history. Make sure to order wine and cheese and watch the sunset. And try to do a tour of the castle while there.

Wow .. it was truly spectacular to be a princess for the night! I highly recommend a stay in this castle. Despite a steep and stressful uphill drive to reach it, the castle is truly enchanting and it was extremely fun to snoop round the grand hall, rooms and corridors at night. The village is very quaint and also a joy to wander round. Many of the restaurants weren't open (it was a Sunday in October) but this didn't matter as the meal at the restaurant right by the castle was perfect, I can't rate it highly enough .. everything was delicious, good value and very romantic in a cave-like underground setting. Breakfast in the castle was also included, lovely toast and jam, biscuits and cake with a great view. It is worth mentioning that on arrival we were initially presented with a room very different to the one pictured on the air bnb listing. It was much smaller and it was a walk to a separate shower room with no bath. As the drive was so rough to get there from Pisa, and I had seen cheaper rooms listed via the castle website before booking, I did mention it was not what we expected, so we were shown a nicer room with a bath.. but still not the fabulous one in the pictures! I felt a bit uncomfortable saying anything, as this room was still amazing and had this been our expectation I'm sure we would have been thrilled .. but I did ask about the pictured room .. luckily for us it was a quiet evening in the castle and we were granted keys to our preferred boudoir (as listed in the pictures). Whilst single beds I feel it was definitely worth it! However, there was not enough hot water to fill up even a quarter of the huge marble bath .. so maybe a shower may be better? I hate to complain as we did have a wonderful stay .. but I think the castle is definitely most appealing for its historical charm and curious ancient objects .. dont expect great modern touches (their is no hair dryer, plugs are a bit damaged and I was electric shocked trying to switch on a bedside lamp, many lights don't work, wifi barely works, cleanliness is ok). But please neglect these as major criticisms, rather build them into your expectations to avoid any disappointment. Overall, this castle is truly unique and incredible, rare air bnb find. I would love to return and had great fun here - I even bought a castle mug as a momento! Pietro was very communicative via messages, however Airbnb is separate to the castle hosts (ran more like a hotel). The two women at the castle reception were very accommodating in greeting us for a late check in and then changing our room (we got a tour of several quirky rooms in the process). Do take my positives and visit!

WOW, WOW, WOW. A totally awesome place, was a described and then some. A fantastic experience to spend the night there. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast spread was great. Just FYI for future guests; Pietro does not live at the castle and instead lives in the city. In sms on the day of arrival he said that latest time for checkin was 7:30. This is not something he let me know in advance and is not written in his listing, but is something to definitely be aware of. I arrived after 7:30 however he still had lovely (and very patient and good humoured) staff still there to greet me, which was great, thank you.

The host is very helpful and made sure everything was going smoothly for us. The castle is really amazing. It is really a dream come true staying in a 12th century castle just like what you see in the movies. Overall, I would highly recommend this stay for an unforgettable experience!
