Private villa with large garden in Tuscany: Poppi (Arezzo), Casentino. 1.5 miles from Poppi castle. It can comfortably host 15 adults + 2 kids under 3y. 2 mountain bikes available on request. Volley / badminton, ping-pong. 2 floors. 4 bdr (two en-suite) for 7 adults at ground fl. and 2 bdr (one en-suite) for 7 adults upstairs. 4 bathrooms (3 downstairs, 1 upstairs). Terracotta floors. Nearby: Shops, restaurants; golf, tennis, swimming, horse riding; Italian, painting, cooking courses. Volley / badminton, ping-pong in the villa. A kids' area can be arranged in the garden upon request (with slide, small pool, etc.). The property is ideal for hiking/cycling holidays. Yoga retreats: outdoor yoga platform and indoor yoga room / "shala". Yoga mats and props available on request. Pilates and Yoga classes in the villa can be arranged on request in part of the year. Indoor and outdoor fireplaces. Outdoor stone barbecue area and pizza oven. Horse riding, golf, tennis, 25 m swimming pool nearby (less than 5 km) Hiking (organized hikes can be arranged), mountain bike (2 MTB available for free for guests, eBike rental nearby). Besides more adventurous mountain biking in the nearby national park, you can easily reach from the villa the local part of the "ciclovia dell'Arno", just been finalised, with 16 km cycling path along the river Arno (the same river that you can see much larger in Florence); this is part of a project of a 400 km cycling path along the Arno that will also reach Florence and Pisa. In winter, ski station at <30km (ski/snowboard/cross-country skiing/snow shoeing). Italian language, painting and cooking courses in the village of Poppi (less than 3km). Dinner in the villa prepared by a chef can be organised (extra cost). 3 minutes walk in the countryside to reach a farmhouse that organizes dinners for external guests in part of the year. 15 minutes walk from the best "gelateria" (ice-cream) in the area.

Big house with a huge garden with all a big group needs to spend the vacations in a calm place. We had a great time.
A wonderful villa retreat in Poppi! This home met all of our requirements, namely, a secluded quiet villa with a nice (very shaded!!) outdoor space and great wifi. The house is huge and spacious and the gardens are very beautiful. Even with the heatwaves, the house stayed cool and comfortable. Many amenteties provided, including basic toiletries, kitchen basic spices/oils, many cooking instruments. Despite Poppi being a small town, it had all the amenities that we wanted within (sometimes long) walking distance- cafes, wonderful restaurants, sandwhich shops, kebab, multiple good grocery shops. A few things to consider: - Poppi is very hard to get to without a vehicle. - You will be in the countryside- this means many critters around the house. - The plugs in the house are not standard EU plugs.

Abbiamo soggiornato in 13 per 5 notti a cavallo di capodanno. L'host si é mostrata disponibile e flessibile durante la prenotazione e il check in. L'abitazione é una casa indipendente molto grande con un giardino bellissimo potenzialmente adatta per ospitare molte persone. Purtroppo durante i primi giorni abbiamo riscontrato problemi alla caldaia e all'impianto elettrico impedendoci di avere l'acqua calda nei sanitari e di poter gestire vari elettrodomestici contemporaneamente. L'host nonostante fuori zona per quel periodo si é dimostrato disponibile a chiamare idraulici ed elettricisti. Purtroppo il problema della caldaia non poteva essere risolto completamente ma si é riusciti almeno per gli ultimi giorni a rendere fruibile in maniera appena sufficiente (dovuto alla scarsa pressione nell'impianto) un bagno consentendoci di lavarci a turni. L'impianto elettrico invece é stato riparato individuando il guasto. L'ideale sarebbe che l'host ampliasse i kW massimi disponibili per rendere più confortevole la permanenza di un certo numero di persone. A seguito di questi problemi abbiamo chiesto un adeguamento del prezzo che ci é stato concesso, sebbene rettificato e concesso solo in parte in quanto la proprietaria ha sostenuto di aver individuato danni all'abitazione (graffi al cotto creati muovendo probabilmente la sedia o con sassi rimasti sotto alle scarpe). Suggeriamo di confrontarsi con l'host sulla situazione caldaia prima di affittare nuovamente la struttura.

The village of Poppi, near Florence and Arezzo, has been selected as one of the “Borghi piu’ belli d’Italia” (Most beautiful villages of Italy).
The “Castello dei Conti Guidi”, first mentioned in documents in 1169, was owned by the Guidi family, that had control of Casentino. The architect is said to be Arnolfo di Cambio, who used Poppi’s Castle as a ‘prototype’ for “Palazzo Vecchio” in Florence, that he also designed. The castle hosted Dante Alighieri, who wrote here part of his famous “Divina Commedia”, during his exile from Florence.
The National Park “Foreste Casentinesi” is a paradise for mountain bikers, hikers, and those who love horse riding in the countryside. Depending on the season, it is possible to find chestnuts, wild berries, and “porcini” mushrooms. In winter, it is possible to ski at 30km from the villa.
St. Francis’ “Santuario de La Verna”, Camaldoli monastery, Romena with its Romanesque church and castle are nearby.
Firenze (58 km), Arezzo (38 km), Siena (100 km), Cortona (50 km), Anghiari (60 km) are not to be missed! The "Campigna" ski area is at about 30km, Bagno di Romagna (hot spings and SPA) is also at about 30km.
For a visit to the Italian East Coast beaches, Cervia/Cesenatico are at ~100km, Rimini is at 130km.
Casentino is separated from Chianti by the beautiful Vallombrosa forest, with its ancient abbey definitely worth a visit!
Local handcraft includes wrought iron and the special “Casentino” wool fabric.
Italian language school and Italian cooking and art classes in the old village (< 3 km).
For shopping lovers, one of the best designer outlets of Italy (The Mall) is at 40 minutes, while the Italian Fashion area “Spazio Lorj” is at 5 minutes.
Train station at ~1km.
Poppi castle and village at 1.5 miles.
Two bicycles are available for guests.
