„Diamond in the rough“…and GOLD for anyone longing for serenity, privacy and a spacious garden (tamed and untamed!). The small roof terrace is also lovely and just big enough to throw down two camping mats and sleep under the stars! A few living notes: The double mattress was SUPER comfy (a rarity in Senegal!). I am not sure on the single ones. Plenty of shelf space, which was great! (and clean!). All 4 burners on the countertop burner also worked – another rarity! Another huge perk to this house is that the kitchen is separate from the rest of the house (you pass through the covered terrace to get to the bedroom and toilet part). This was really great with 4 of us being there and not on the same sleep schedule. :) Kafountine (the house manager) lives just across the path and was very friendly and helpful. Agnes was also really fast in communication over Airbnb and very accommodating, too! The “rough” aspects are a bit typical for Senegal, doors that do not work or close right (except the outside ones which lock well!), a leaky sink, very basic kitchen materials (a few plates, two spoons, a few mugs and plastic cups), weak electricity, holes in the mosquito nets, a bit of trash around the garden. One thing to note (that we missed in the description) – there is no refrigerator. Also, be aware there is an open well on the property – with no cover on it! As for location, we found it great! The house is only a 15 minute walk to a mostly empty beach offering less trash than most places in Senegal, and warm water and gently rolling waves. You need to ask a local how to get there, though – as it required weaving in and out of private properties. It is also only a 15-minute walk to the main street in town, and only a few minutes walk to a few boutiques with basic fresh and dry products. The only downside to the area is also typical in Senegal – neighbors burning their trash, hence burning our lungs. :( All in all, was a homey feeling to the house and we felt good knowing that the house manager, Kafountine, was close by.

La maison est trés fonctionnelle et agréable. Elle est un peu loin du centre. Super pour les marcheurs ou prendre un djécarta pour se déplacer. Un joli chemin nous conduit à l’ocean qui n’est pas loin..

Agnes has a really nice house in the village of Abene. Her husband was very helpful and responsive with during our stay. House was quite close to the main festival area (10 min walking), however it is quite a bit of walk to the beach. The house is really cute but the price a bit too high for what is offered. House if off-grid so no hot water and mosquito nets were not in a very good condition.

Das Häusschen ist sehr schön gelegen. Die Lage finde ich ein Traum. Es war sehr sauber und alles Piccobello. Was will man mehr? Ah ja, Meer! Verschiedene idyllische Wege führen in 15 Min. zu Fuss an den Strand oder ins Dorf. Gleich um's Eck hat es eine kleine Boutique und mit dem Solarstrom ist Elektrizität immer garantiert. Definitiv mehr als Meer! Agnes und Kafountine waren auch sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Ich kann das Häusschen und die Gastgeber wärmstens empfehlen. Everything was perfect and the hosts very friendly and helpful!
