This is a wonderful, fully furnished house. Very comfortable. We thought we might have an issue with a cancelled flight and the owner was very responsive and helpful. Fortunately, we were able to get to the house on time. The location is great for catching the aurora borealis, as it is remote and there is no light polution.

Our hosts supplied a link to a website with local recommendations, once our booking was confirmed and answered any questions promptly. The home is tastefully appointed, in a Scandinavian, uncluttered way, with enough kitchen equipment to prepare meals and some, uneven staples provided. It seems everyone before us had left a half box of pasta, some variety of muesli, and a bottle of balsamic vinegar, but there was only a teaspoon of olive oil remaining in each of three bottles, so we left a small new bottle (in March 2024). Shop in Borgarnes on your way to the cabin or at well-stocked supermarkets in Grundarfjador or Stykkisholmur (supplies probably available in other small towns, too). The views on each side of the house are stunning. The scenic Snaefellesnes Peninsula begins right beyond your door. The kitchen, lighting is excellent. The rest of the home’s lighting is adequate, pretty much either a little bright or a little dim. There are notably high door sills between the rooms.

We loved the property and location and used it as a base to explore the North West for 4 nights. We had a party of 6 adults, a 5 year old and 1 year old and the house was perfect with an open plan layout and all the amenities a family would need. Iceland is a place of distance, be prepared to drive to get to anything you need or want to see. The coastline is simply amazing in this part of the country and winter was a very atmospheric time to visit. Our hosts were so gracious and they have built a beautiful residence for guests to enjoy.

We had to make a last second change of plans due to severe weather up north & Helga Maria & her co-hosts could not have been more accomodating when we decided to look for a place on the peninsula. As I told them about 10 times, we all felt like the 3 days we spent there was the most relaxing part of our trip. I felt zero guilt lounging on the couch for a full day surrounded by stunning views out every one of the large windows, cooking dinner for my friends in the super well appointed kitchen - seriously, it had everything we needed! We made the drive to the restaurant at the Hotel Búðir one night, we completely recommend, it was fantastic. We took a dip in the tiny hot spring down the road. We were greeted morning & evening by our favorite of our hosts horses - did I mention the horses? - who came by the back door to say hello. (We miss you already, Hot Cocoa!) It was extra fridgid outside, but we could even aurora watch from the back door, which faces north. Can't wait to return!
