Denis was an amazing host. The place look amazing and everything was very clean. Denis was super friendly and responded very quickly. Incredible place all around.
Denis was a kind and gracious host. We had previously arranged with him to drop our bags at 9am because of an early flight arrival, but when we got there he had the space ready and graciously allowed us to check in. There is sufficient space to stay comfortably although the dining table was small, even for two. Denis’s space is handily located for both the tram or bus to get into the city. The space had something of a musty spell and is located below road level. The smell was the only indication of damp though. All in all this is a great place to stay and I’d be happy to highly recommend it.
The neighbourhood of Phibsborough, with its wonderful mix of architectural styles, dates from the early 18th century when it started to develop along a main coach route out of Dublin. When this route was crossed by the then new circular road the village expanded rapidly into a city quarter but retained its village feel especially in its side streets and lanes.
Local shopping includes supermarkets, convenience (one with 24hr opening) and speciality shops all within 5 mins walk.
Phibsborough is close to many attractions including the Phoenix Park with its world famous Zoo. The Park, as it is called by Dubliners, is Europe's largest enclosed city park (700 hectares). Here you can rent bikes and cycle around, admire the scenery and see the herd of fallow deer which roam free through its woods and meadows.
The National Botanic Gardens which has specimens of plants from all around the world is also close by. It is a beautiful, quiet place to roam around and when it is raining or cold you can visit the greenhouses or the Gallery which has different events on during the year. There's also a nice cafe and restaurant.
There are walks along the urban oasis of the Royal Canal built in the 1780s where you can see swans, ducks and herons. Do not go too close to nesting swans they are very protective of their nests and young.
We are close to many shops, cafes, and bars: both traditional and specialised. While there are some restaurants close at hand we would recommend trying the Capel Street and Parnell Street areas with their diverse ethnic restaurants or Parnell Sq for fine dining. Or if you feel like an evening in and don't feel like cooking there are numerous takeaways nearby.
Dublin is an easy city to get around. Most tourist attractions are within walking distance of each other. There are numerous walking routes to the city centre taking 15/25 mins, each one offering a different perspective of the central core of Dublin. There is a frequent tram service nearby if you need it and taxis can be hailed as they pass by. Cycling is a great way to get around the city: see (URL HIDDEN) for details of the bike rental scheme.
