Step back in time in this magnificent home; grand wooden staircases, romantic four-poster beds, & remarkable wood panelled rooms. The Manor has all the historic charm one could ask for, with all the luxurious facilities of the modern day world. The spectacular Grade II listed property dates back to the 13th Century, and was later rebuilt in 1680. An ideal base to explore Somerset, the property sleeps 8 across 3 double bedrooms (2 en-suite), & 1 twin room with 2 single beds. Small dog on request The Manor is light and bright & perfectly suited for a family of eight. Upstairs on the first floor are the four main bedrooms. Bedrooms one & two each include super king four poster beds, (both ensuite). There’s a further small double bedroom with bathroom and shower room just across the hall. The final bedroom contains two full size single beds making it ideal for children or young adults. Travel cots/camp beds are available on request for couples with infants and smaller children. Downstairs the reception rooms are decorated with traditional tapestries and antiques. The dining room table can seat up to ten guests alongside the 17th Century fireplace with log burner. The kitchen is just around the corner past the main staircase and fully equipped with separate connecting pantry. The kitchen includes electric AGA with hobs and combination oven, Smeg fridge freezer, kettle, toaster, Nespresso coffee machine, & integrated dishwasher. The washing machine & drier are located in the Laundry on the landing of the first floor which is easily accessible up from the kitchen via the service staircase. Under the stairs there is a small guest toilet and an area for coats and hats with wellie stand can be found just outside the kitchen hallway. Back down the main hallway is the family snug, a small living room with comfy sofa, library and television, an additional bathroom and loo is also located just off the snug. Further down past the dining area is the study / games room which includes both a chess and card table, along with log burner. The final room on the ground floor is likely the grandest, the beautifully restored wood panelled drawing room with log burner, two large comfortable sofas, armchairs, and a large flat screen tv perfect for movie nights in. There is a spacious garden with rockery to the rear of the Manor which includes a back patio lawn, and spacious summer house / BBQ with alfresco dining area. The rockery flowers beautifully from Spring to Summer. No detail has been overlooked to ensure this is a perfect holiday home for your seasonal countryside break.
The Manor was the perfect place for our family get together to celebrate a special occasion, I only wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy all it and the area has to offer. The property is a wonderfully restored historic building that's even more spacious and interesting than the photos convey (if that's possible). Saud is a great host and was quick to respond to any queries both prior to and during our stay, making our time at The Manor all the more pleasurable and easy to organise.
Wow what a place! We had a fantastic New Year here with a group of friends. Plenty of lovely walks near by and easily walkable to a number of pubs and shops. Saud responded very quickly to any questions we had and made our trip stress free. Thank you!!
We have just returned from the most wonderful, magical Christmas at the manor. It is a simply stunning building, but with a wonderful friendly feel to the place. From booking the manor until the day we arrived, Saud has been the perfect host. All enquiries and questions have normally been answered within the hour. It has an idyllic setting in the hamlet of Compton Durville but just 15-20 minutes walk into the shops, pubs and restaurants of South Petherton. The rooms are enormous, beautifully furnished and Saud even dressed the lovely 8 foot tree in the Drawing room. He also left us a really lovely Welcome pack of assorted local goodies. There is plenty of parking and the Manor is so large we were still finding additional toilets and cupboards on our last day!. Its is excellent for a mixed age group of people as plenty of quiet areas if you need time away from the main group. We all enjoyed ourselves so much and would return for another Christmas with family and friends in a heartbeat
As a location for a family gathering over Christmas, The Manor House was perfect. We loved the spacious, historic rooms, with massive stone fireplaces and flagstone floors. This house is packed with character. Our host provided us with an endless supply of logs for the wood burners throughout the duration of our stay. We all loved the comfort of the beds which were made up with high quality bedding and sumptuous towels for our bathrooms. The kitchen was well stocked with pretty much all we needed for a large family gathering including loads of crockery, an Aga, brand new dishwasher and fabulously sharp knives. We would definitely want to return for another stay.
The Manor is located in Compton Durville which is a small timeless hamlet located just outside the village of South Petherton in the South Somerset district of Somerset, England, located 5 miles (8 km) east of Ilminster and 5 miles (8 km) north west of Crewkerne.
The hamlet is in walking distance of both South Petherton which has a number of shops, cafes, pub & restaurants, & Shepton Beauchamp which is reachable over public footpaths through neighbouring Meadowlea Farm.
Access to the Manor is off Compton Road and clearly signposted if coming out of South Petherton. Guests have the parking spaces directly outside the side gate wall in front of the porch steps up to the property. There are numerous public footpaths nearby which make for some lovely walks. The rolling hills and flat plains have made the area a popular destination for cyclists.
