UPLAND GAME HUNTERS:
The Prairie Grouse season opens in mid-September and can be quite good on public and private grasslands within 30-60 minutes from PPH, as far fewer hunters target prairie grouse. While there is no Prairie Grouse hunting right on PPH property, PPH is a perfect as base lodging for Prairie Grouse.
For Ring-necked pheasants, there are numerous public hunting areas nearby, but they are hunted quite hard for the first few weeks of the season. Most hunters either have long standing permission for hunting access or have already arranged for fee based hunting. There are many private fee based pheasant hunting places in the area.
The Ring-Necked Pheasant season 3rd Saturday October opener to early November, is reserved for family hunting, at other times, contact us about per gun fee based upland bird hunting on over an adjacent 3000 acres of some of the best native grass and game food plots in South Dakota. Easy Directions: Your GPS may get you lost! So: I-90 exit 297, at White Lake, travel north on the paved road about 11-12 miles to 241st Street, turn left on 241st Street (gravel) and go 3 miles to Patten Prairie House. PPH is at the Northeast intersection of 241st Street and 370th Avenue.
Mitchell, South Dakota, home of the Corn Palace and the Prehistoric Indian Village is just 1 hour east via I-90. Chamberlain, with the finest Missouri River walleye fishing and home of the Akta Lakota Museum and Cultural Center is only 40 miles west. 14 miles to grocery, auto services, and tavern in White Lake. The Black Hills is about 4 1/2 hours away.
Patten Prairie House is 10 hours from Milwaukee and Chicago, 5 1/2 hours from the Twin Cities, 4 1/2 hours from Omaha, and 4 1/2 hours from Rapid City.
