Laniakea is a unique wood, thatch, glass and screed floor bush lodge that simply breathes homeliness. Located in the Big 5 boasting Mjejane Private Game Reserve, within the savanna biome of the Greater Kruger National Park, our classic lodge has recorded over 340 birds in this game dense area. Laniakea is a home away from home for the avid bush, bird, ungulate and Big 5 lover. A self-catering lodge that sleeps eight in four stand-alone double en suite bedrooms linked by decked walkway. This is the home of an artist and writer nature guiding couple. The lodge is unique by typical South African lodge standards. It was designed from the learnings of Botswana bush lodges, with double ring beams to facilitate natural cooling throughout. It's sleeping and living areas are kept separate, yet connected, by open deck walkways. Each bedroom is stand alone en suite to enhance a sense of privacy when bedtime beckons. Whilst the lodge living, cooking, eating, swimming and relaxing areas are all integrated so that no one ever feels alone. Every space is designed to combine privacy and intimacy in living, together with appreciation of the Crocodile River and the vast expanse of Kruger bush veld, that flows for as far as the eye can see.

A small piece of heaven, the house is a home and we just relaxed from the second we arrived. You cannot ask for a better place to sit and watch wildlife across the river in the Kroger national park. A special place and we will be sure to visit again. Louise was responsive and simply amazing to deal with. Thank you 🙏❤️
We invited our children (our daughter and son-in-law) and their children (our grandchildren) to visit South Africa for the school holidays. They reside in Toulouse and haven’t had the privilege to visit the Kruger National Park. We were extremely excited to visit the Kruger National Park, specifically Mjejane Private Game Reserve. Laniakea exceed all our expectations : we were pleasantly surprised by its simplicity. Laniakea is, for us, home from home, in that the rooms are spacious and clean, the linnen perfectly starched and the living area well equipped. The most wonderful experience is the amazing views from the veranda overlooking the Crocodile River which separates Mjejane from the Kruger National Park. We were blown away and spend hours on the veranda “absorbing” the beauty of nature ! Laniakea didn’t disappoint us at all and our lives were enriched by this awesome experience ! We are looking forward to our next visit with our children and grand children.

Laniakea Lodge is located on the Crocodile River within a development node in Mjejane Private Game Reserve which is part of Greater Kruger Park.
Walking is permitted in the development node only. For jogging and cycling with non dangerous game please use Kingsland Nature area between the railway bridge tunnel and the N4.
No self drive is allowed in the Reserve.
Game drives can be arranged for our guests in an Open Safari Vehicle at an additional cost of R1800 per 3 hour drive. The OSV is driven by an accredited FGASA nature guide who is familiar with the reserve and extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the savanna bushveld.
