The Balenbouche Estate is a wonderful place to stay whether you are looking for a quiet place to relax or a base for exploring the south of Saint Lucia. Uta treated us to some delicious food with fruit and veg grown in the garden and was so welcoming. We could have listened to her life stories and the history all day! Of the two beaches, one is swimable only if the sea is calm but there are some lovely beaches nearby. The accommodation was well presented and we loved sitting on the terrace reading a book and did not miss aircon at all. If you are really lucky you will be taken for a walk around the estate by one of the resident dogs, who are all so well behaved and friendly.
We just had the best week here! We were looking for quiet and peaceful and this place was just that…it’s absolutely beautiful and serene! The cottages are simple and while not fancy, it was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved having coffee on our porch each morning with the sounds of the birds and being surrounded by the beauty of nature was so peaceful. You can walk down to 2 beaches, both gorgeous and perfect for watching the sunset. The whole property was beautiful and you can tour the old mill and structures as you walk around. As far as location, you are near the town of Soufrière with some good restaurants and within a 25 min drive of some beautiful beaches that are off the beaten path, the Pitons, some good hiking and other beautiful spots. Uta and her staff were kind and welcoming and helpful and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
We had a wonderful time at Balenbouche Estate. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed exploring and walking to the nearby beaches. Our accomdations were perfect; I especially loved the porch and outdoor kitchen. We loved the breakfast and Uta was an amazing host and conversationalist. We would love to stay here again someday.
Me and my partner had the most beautiful few days at Balenbouche. It’s a magical place steeped in history and character. Uta, her daughter and everyone working there were so friendly and accommodating. We loved the dogs, the secluded beaches and exploring the grounds. Our cabin had everything we needed to cook for ourselves and the option to eat dinner & breakfast cooked by Uta was wonderful. If you’re coming to St Lucia, you must visit Balenbouche!
We booked Balenbouche specifically so that we could be immersed in nature and not surrounded by holidaymakers and it was perfect. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful and the accommodation was extremely comfortable. We were travelling with our 18 month old who fully embraced having such freedom. We recommend having a car so that you can do day excursions and visit restaurants nearby. The hosts were warm and inviting and made the experience even better than we could have expected. We had some great conversations and they were extremely amenable. If you’re looking for a typical Caribbean resort holiday with pool, on site restaurant/bar and amenities then this might not be right for you. Utta describes the place perfectly in her listing; it’s a different experience but such a meaningful one.

自我介绍
I have lived in St Lucia for over 35 years, after having grown up in Austria and Germany, and traveled throughout Asia and Europe. Balenbouche Estate was a struggling historic plantation when I first came to the island. My background in architecture and interior design, my experience living in other cultures and simple, rural conditions, prepared me for this challenge. Gradually over time, together with my two daughters Verena and Anitanja, I created a small eco lodge, heritage site and retreat center. Today, Balenbouche is a natural, historic, rustic and down to earth place, where people are able to reflect, reconnect and slow down. Over the years, our family has welcomed many wonderful guests from around the world many of which have become part of a Balenbouche community of friends, supporters and repeat guests. As the caretaker of this special place, it gives me great joy to share its beauty with all those who appreciate it.
