Before you even arrive at our unique peaceful place, you will know this is not your average air bnb cabin. Not only is Cabin on the Clinch secluded, you will likely feel as if you have stepped back in time. As you pull in to the spacious backyard you'll see the rear of the cabin. (The front porch faces the Clinch River). You may pull up close to the small back porch to unload luggage and supplies. Two steps puts you up on the porch to the door leading into the kitchen. An antique white/red flour cabinet, solid oak drop leaf table, ladder back chairs, pie safe, and red gingham curtains over the two kitchen windows welcome you back in time to a slower pace to relax. The modern amenities are there to help you relax as well - electric stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, dishwasher and granite counter tops. You will not need to carry water or build a fire in a cookstove as folks originally did in this cabin two hundred years ago. The bathroom is conveniently on the right with a tub/shower combo and laundry facilities - electric washer and dryer. In the left of the kitchen, one step up takes you another step back in time as this room is made from the older of the two cabins which combined to create our home away from home. In this 18'x24' space you'll find the main living space filled with antiques, much as it might have looked in 1825. The original chimney stones have been reused for the fireplace (so sorry - it isn't functional just now) and with the mantle, provides a beautiful focal point. Other pieces in the room include a wooden slat back sofa with pillows, Bible table, Upright grand piano, platform rocker, recliner, dresser and nightstand. The queen bed is a modern comfort you would not have seen in 1825. Nearly all beds were homemade and standard size at that time, but affords you a comfortable, roomy night's rest. In the front left corner is two steps up to a small landing and then on to 6 ladder type steps with hand rails that lead to the exposed loft which offers two full size beds and a twin bookcase style bed. From the main room, the center door leads to the front porch where you'll find a double rocker and two single rockers to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views of the gently rolling Clinch River or close your eyes and enjoy the sounds of water of the nearby shoals. Nearly 1/2 mile of open river bank beckons you for fishing, kayaking or splashing around. During most times of the year the water level/current is suitable to wade while fishing.
This cabin and property are beautiful. It was like stepping back in time staying here. The Clinch River, the mountain views and the wildlife are a very peaceful setting. It was relaxing to shut out the outside world and just enjoy nature, while still having a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. We have 3 kids, ages 1 to 11, and they enjoyed the cabin and outdoor space the entire time. Pam was very responsive and easy to contact. We had one hiccup with the heater not working and it got cold at night. Pam and Doug drove out that evening and brought us space heaters. My family and I recommend this place!
If relaxation is needed, this is the place to be - breathtaking views outside and cozy beauty inside. We needed to unplug and unwind for a few days, and this place delivered. We definitely hope to find our way back there someday. If you're looking to get away from it all, this is the place.
Pam’s cabin was a nice getaway from the city. Kayaks, a fire pit, and a large yard allow you to focus on those who surround you as you enjoy this peaceful setting. While it may be an 1800s cabin, it has all the modern feels. We were lucky to have found a place like this for a long weekend together as a family.
The property is even more stunning in person. It’s just incredibly untouched and serene. The land surrounding the house was filled with wild life. We had several incredible mornings having coffee on the porch and watching the deer, geese and hummingbirds swarm the property. The Place on Clinch has a DELICIOUS restaurant, which was a nice surprise. One of the best burgers I’ve eaten in a long time. Rogersville is quaint and definitely worth an afternoon. They had some nice local shopping and restaurants. We would book this pet-friendly cabin again in a heartbeat.
As you travel to Hancock County you may feel as if you are traveling back in time. The mountains are picturesque and there seems to always be a gentle breeze. The last two miles of your journey will take you back 200 years as you travel down a narrow, gravel road. You might want to practice your "backing" skills, in case you meet a tractor or possibly another vehicle, though the traffic to your destination is minimal to say the least! This is a one of a kind, remote location that is sure to please the senses of any nature lover and provide days of relaxation.
You will be able to see the spacious backyard and the back of the cabin from the gravel drive. River place on the Clinch is remodeled and currently open. They have basic grocery items and a cozy restaurant where you can enjoy nostalgic seating inside or the views from the deck. Restaurant service is available on weekend. The nearest gas station, full service grocery, Walmart, etc is 20-30 minutes away. Hiking is available within the immediate vicinity as well as fishing and canoeing/kayaking on site.
