The Historic Village of Sackets Harbor overlooks Lake Ontario on the Black River Bay. In the early 1800s, Sackets Harbor was the third largest population center in New York, behind New York City and Albany. This was due to the village's unique position on Lake Ontario and role as a major Navy shipyard and the Army presence at Madison Barracks. The village was the site of two battles during the War of 1812.
Today, Sackets Harbor is a little gem with a proud history. There is a wonderful walking trail that starts at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield Site, fishing from the public docks, top-notch restaurants, and historic reenactments on the Battlefield. Heading toward Watertown on Route 3, it is less than 15 minutes to large grocery stores, Target, Walmart, Lowe's Home Improvement, Sam's Club, Regal Cinemas, and any other big-box retailer you could need.
Heading toward Henderson Harbor on Route 3, you're 20 minutes from Southwick Beach State Park with beautiful sand dunes, a brand new visitor center, and 17 miles of pristine beaches. Westcott Beach State Park is closer but a bit more populated but also quite lovely. There are numerous wildlife management areas with beautiful walk, such as Lakeview Wildlife Management area and so much more.

The village is a pleasure to walk with adorable shops and restaurants. There is plenty of parking at the house for up to four cars and room for a boat trailer.
