Step into farm life and get away to Leelanau County, in beautiful northern Michigan. Ours is a working farm and a friendly “flerd” of animals are waiting to meet you and your family! Come along on our daily tours, where you may gather fresh eggs for your breakfast and help feed the hens. Then visit the piglets, calves and sheep by walking with us over the creek bridges and up into the green pastures. At BuckWild, we are pleased to offer you some of life’s simplest and sweetest pleasures. The space available to you is the entire lower level of our home (The kitchen is shared for seasonal canning from the garden.). The private entrance is a yellow door at the rear, and overlooks our own valley to the south. You can enjoy your morning coffee on the patio chairs and take in the view. Your simple rooms are cozy but not fancy. We welcome children and have playthings, games and books for them to enjoy. We also have a collection of fun board games for all ages. But outdoor fun is our specialty! There are wooded trails that wind through our 19 acres; 3 bridges over the creek; deer, water bugs, frogs, wildflowers, and swing set, plus a giant tree swing, and a zip-line for Littles. (Parents must accompany children please.) Lovely Lake Leelanau is nearby and visible from our road should you take a walk, however the public access is about 3.5 miles away by foot, bike or car. Our “flerd” is a mix between a flock and herd, including 2 one-year old steers 2 newborn calves to bottle feed 6 sheep and 6 newborn lambs in April 2024 5 piglets ( arrive in May) A dozen chickens Cat and a farm pup Wild Apple orchard, large vegetable and berry garden and fenced pasture. From March to October, you and your family can participate in egg-gathering, and feeding and caring for the animals and land. Seasonal events: MARCH-APRIL-MAY Bottle feeding baby animals Garden planting JUNE-JULY-AUG-SEP-OCT Garden harvest, berry-picking, apple harvest, apple cider pressing, pasture tours
We have two young children and they just loved staying here. Lots of fun things for kids !
Recently stayed here with our 5 kids. Sharon was very welcoming! And gave us a tour of the farm along with showing our boys how to feed the animals and the zip line. The fresh eggs for breakfast and homemade muffins were delicious! I highly recommend this stay.
We booked a stay at Sharon & Dave’s because we were checking out nearby Interlochen and we liked that it was so child-friendly for our kids. We knew our daughters would love the farm animals. The space was simple but very clean and the bed was quite possibly the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in (really appreciated the cotton linens!). It was well-stocked with toys and board games, and the roll of paper and crayons and colored pencils were a great addition. Sharon was a great communicator and made our visit very pleasant. We loved the homemade raspberry muffins, fresh eggs, getting to help feed the sheep and steers, and the education she gave us. We’d planned to go into downtown Traverse City for dinner but we were so happy we took Sharon’s recommendation and went to Farm Club just up the road; it was EXCELLENT. If our child winds up attending Interlochen, this will be where we choose to stay on return visits.
Absolutely loved our stay. Such wonderful hosts and the kids absolutely adored the animals and zip line!
We have an almost 20 month old, and this was the first, best kid friendliest place we have ever been in the last 20 months. We know we were the first winter guests which will have some learning all around. It was 1000% worth the visit in general, simply for the prepared for toddler life. We have typically stayed at the same hotel for forever, but this was so much better. The accommodations are a fully finished basement that is very cozy and comfortable for a family. The full kitchen and family space is great and very welcoming.
We are just 10 minutes from Traverse City, and 2 miles from Lake Leelanau and West Grand Traverse Bay beaches. The Leelanau Bike Trail crosses Birch Point Rd just to the east of our farm; it is 8 miles to bike to Traverse City and 10 miles to Suttons Bay. There are 20+wineries and cider houses in the area.
