With the Southern Pacific Ocean laid out before you, there’s no better spot to admire the views, relax, listen to music or read a good book. Welcome to the Professor’s Beach House at Brighton! This colonial style two storied holiday home is an ideal space for families as well as creative writers and music buffs. There’s room for extended family groups, sleeping up to 10. Upstairs you will find four bedrooms with dormer windows and captivating views. Downstairs is a main bathroom and a 'mini' bathroom, kitchen, living and sitting rooms and a library. A gorgeous macrocarpa hedge frames the lawn, with outdoor furniture, a covered verandah and space for everyone. Choose a title from one of the best private collections of New Zealand literature you’ll find anywhere, a parting gift from the previous owner, a Professor of English at the University of Otago. Or pop on a CD or record from the large jazz selection and let music surround you. Stoke the fire, and when the weather’s fine, relax on the expansive lawns, to the backdrop of birdsong and the ocean. This beautiful family home features modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi, large flat-screen TV with Freeview & Netflix, two heat pumps, BBQ, laundry facilities and a well-equipped kitchen including a coffee machine. Just 25 minutes south of Dunedin, Brighton forms part of an idyllic stretch of coastline to be explored and enjoyed with picnics, fish and chips, and ice-cream. There is a bank at the edge of the lawn that drops steeply to a levelled area below.Note that there are three different floor levels within the ground floor of the home. There is one step down from entry way into living room, and this will be marked clearly. There are two steps up from an interior hallway into the library, and this is clearly visible, no markings needed. Also, there is a steep outdoor wooden stairway from the laundry to the basement door, however it has a hand rail and the steps are painted, in reasonable condition and free of moss or other slippery things.Nighttime visits to the bathroom require a trip down the stairs as the four bedrooms are located upstairs, however a sofabed in the library is on the downstairs level. Please note a bond may be charged at certain times of the year. One of our team members will contact you if this is required for your booking.
Great spot, near the beach in a sleepy neighbourhood south of Dunedin. Homely and comfortable
This gorgeous home is even more beautiful than the pictures. Every room is like pockets of peace. It's more than just an airbnb, but a home away from home. Had everything we needed to cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner during our stay. The instruction booklet was easy to follow, specifically the sound system that connected from lounge to kitchen, amazing jazz collection, and the library. Enjoyed reading the history of the street/suburb and home as well as the late Professor Lawrence Jones. Thank you for sharing your home to our family who've enjoyed our stay and were sad to leave. Our pockets of peace home and much needed refresh, reflect and reset week in Dunedin. God bless.

Visitors to Dunedin may also be interested in touring the Speight's Brewery or following the Dunedin Art and Craft Trail. Other attractions include the Dunedin Botanic Gardens, which are the oldest botanic gardens in the country, the Otago Settler's Museum, which opened in 1898, mountain biking on Signal Hill and the many local beaches in the area.
