Amanda’s place is absolutely beautiful. The peace and quiet and the location is wonderful. We drove down a long drive, waving to sheep and lambs, passing the farm and arrived at the cottage. The house itself is beautifully decorated and very spacious. The kitchen diner is light and airy, the living room cosy, the bedrooms comfortable. We stayed as a family of five adults and there was plenty of space. We walked the Tolkien trail whilst we were there which was a 15 min drive away, had lunch in a fab pub. A place where you can absolutely relax and unwind.
Perfect location for a relaxing family get away. Within easy reach of great walks and country pubs. The cottage was spacious and had everything we needed and welcome extras like books and games. Quiet at night and lovely views from all the rooms - particularly with so many cute lambs! Will definitely stay again if back in the area. Thank you.
We spent a few days over Easter at Amanda’s beautiful shepherds cottage near Clitheroe. It was idyllic, especially with it being lambing season so plenty of cute lambs about. The best way I can describe the whole experience was Hygge Amanda is the perfect host. Our communication was faultless and an absolute pleasure to have met. Thank you
Shepherds cottage is beautifully designed, a good size, lovely furnishings with extra touches like lemongrass toiletries supplied, white linens, super large bath sheets. Lovely carpets upstairs and underfloor heating downstairs. All pristine. Very comfortable beds. The location is as described - very rural with hares and sheep in the adjoining fields. The farmer lives next door with working dogs on site. It was a February visit for us so we packed for rain and muddy walks. There is a very useful utility area for drying boots and coats. We visited a couple of local inns but preferred to eat evening meals at the cottage - Booths in Clitheroe is perfect for easy to cook ‘holiday’ menus with a great selection of gastropub meals and nice wines. There are loads of wonderful off road local walks but surprisingly few doggy friendly cafes… we did find an exceptionally nice cafe at Dunsop Bridge called PuddleDuck. Very friendly and welcoming even though we were in wet raincoats and dog friendly
Shepherd's Cottage is nestled in the beautiful countryside of the Ribble Valley, just on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, AONB. Often described as a hidden gem, not many people know we are here - meaning you truly get the rural and peaceful getaway you need to recharge.
Great for walkers and foodies alike, the area is famous for it's landscape, history and most of all - award winning pubs.
Shepherd's is located on a working farm, so comes with all the sights, smells and sounds of a beef and sheep farm. The real countryside experience!
Please note there are 3 sheep dogs on-site belonging to the farmer.
With Shepherd's you'll almost certainly want a car to make sure you can get around and make the most of your stay as location-wise it is fairly rural. The council no longer run a bus to our part of the world, despite what the internet still says!
We have designated parking behind the wall in front of the cottage which is sign posted. You then walk through a small gate opening to the front of the cottage. Please make sure you park in this designated area throughout your stay and DO NOT park outside the front door as you will block the farmer's access. Access is via a long farm track which is sign posted. Please note you are on a working farm, so activity maybe afoot when you arrive!
You can walk straight out of the door onto a public footpath (using OS Maps is always advisable), or drive a little to explore some of our fantastic hills on foot. Clitheroe is about 10 minutes down the hill for food and shopping or the historic town of Lancaster is about 40 minutes away with the fabulous Lancaster Castle which is well worth a visit.
