Situated at 1,500 meters above sea level, Mestia makes a convenient base for exploring Svaneti.
With its stunning mountain scenery, excellent hiking opportunities and unique culture, there are plenty of reasons to visit the area.
Mestia is the best base for day hikes in the whole of Georgia. you can easily spend a whole week exploring the surrounding mountains.
Alternatively, you can explore the area on horse back.
Winter sports lovers can take the ski lift up to ski resorts Hatsvali and Tetnuldi from the town center.
Tourists interested in religious history will find plenty of examples of wall paintings, frescoes and icons from the Middle Ages in the churches around Mestia. Within Mestia, the Church of Saint George contains well-preserved crosses and icons from the XII century. Additionally, Pusdi Church still contains fragments of XIII century wall paintings.
In town, you can find everything you need: shops, cafés and restaurants. There are also plenty of small shops that sell locally grown vegetables and home made cheese, wine, chacha and cognac. Cheers!

If you come by car, you can park outside the premises. It's perfectly safe.
