Great stay over Easter…lovely cottage with lots of design details but still very cosy and comfortable. John, the host, was very responsive and welcoming. Will definitely return!
This was a lovely high spec cottage with gorgeous interior. We loved the various pieces of art and tasteful decor in every room which made it really stand out for us. The house was a well equipped 'home from home'. The stairs are very steep which may be an issue for some. Guests with larger cars may have to park in the street around the corner, as parking is tight. The house is peaceful and no noise at night. There are lovely walks right from the doorstep and we enjoyed exploring Ramsbottom. Plenty of good places to eat, drink, independent shops, coffee shops and an amazing chocolate shop!
Beautiful place to stay, thoughtfully designed space , interior designed and a fantastic landscaping in the rear garden. Thank you both for allowing us to stay.
A very comfortable, clean and well considered home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciated the extra courtesy offered to us - many thanks!
Stubbins is a quaint Lancashire village within walking distance of Ramsbottom. Margaret's cottage is located up a quiet no through road, with on street parking outside the cottage. Whilst the parking is not dedicated, neighbours are very respectful and park outside their own house.
The house has access to fields from the garden so it's a great base for walking. Alternatively, you can step out of the front door and head down the lane onto the National trust land, which includes woodland and buildings of historic interest related to Lancashire's textile heritage.
There are several lovely walks from the door step across open countryside. In the village itself is a wonderful, traditional village shop which stocks all of the essentials as well as serving homemade pastries and delicious bacon sandwiches. There is also a great fish and chip shop too.
Ten minutes walk away is the village of Ramsbottom which has a range of supermarkets as well as many independent shops, from designer clothing and homeware to delis and award winning butchers. There are many cafes, restaurants and bars serving a wide range of cuisines including Korean, Italian, Spanish, Indian and Thai food at different budgets.
The village hosts the East Lancs railway which is a popular tourist attraction. The steam train runs to neighbouring towns including Rawtenstall and Bury. There is an annual chocolate festival and 1940s weekend too.
Access to the M66 is quick and easy, so you can be up in the Lakes in just over 1 hour or in Manchester in around 30-40 minutes subject to traffic.
There is on street parking at Margaret's Cottage immediately outside the property. Whilst parking is not guaranteed, the neighbours are all very courteous and polite and generally leave space so each person can park.
East View is a no through road, and access is tight for larger vehicles. If you are unsure about driving down the lane, then there is plenty of on street parking on Stubbins Street before you get to East View.
You can access the local village on foot, as well as Ramsbottom, which is a 10-15 minute walk away. From there you can use the East Lancs steam train or buses to get around. Taxis are also relatively easy to get.
The M66 is a five minute drive away giving easy access to neighbouring towns like Rawtenstall, Bury, Manchester and further north to the Lakes.
