Dominic’s house was spacious and clean. Close to downtown and definitely a value for money. I would recommend people looking to stay in Harrisburg to check out his house. It’s worth staying! Location was an added factor too.
Dominic is a very personable guy. Friendly and considerate. The room and bathroom was clean and neat. Perfect for me because I only needed a place to stay for 2 days while I attended a Continuing Education Class close by.
Bang for buck, Dominic's place is awesome! I think the people who left poorer ratings didn't factor cost into consideration, and I'm not sure they actually understood/appreciated the full range and variety of B&Bs at AirBnB. <<PROS:>> 1) Extremely affordable. During the Hershey's Halloween Night event, hotels were going for $250/night, this place was at $50 or so. 2) REALLY CLEAN. I checked for bedbugs, but the place was very clean. It's an older home (had radiators), so of course there is wear and tear, but the floors were polished wood floors, the bathroom shower tiles were clean, the restroom floor tile was so clean I felt bad wearing shoes in so I actually took my shoes off so they wouldn't smudge dirt on the super shiny floors. Everything was super clean. Wear and tear, yes, but cleaner than my home would be if I was given no heads-up and someone visited. 3) Dominic is responsive; I gave only maybe a 24 hour notice and he was out of town, but still able to accommodate us. That was great. 4) There are some toiletries available if you managed to forget things. 5) The room was fine on temperature. 6) The beds are queen size beds; I guess he has two that he usually rents out, and they both have queen size beds and are good sized rooms. 7) There is a puppy gate at the base of the stairs; all rooms are upstairs. This probably means that when the dog is there, she probably won't be roaming around or surprising you or knocking anything over with waggy tail. :) 8) You can book the second room along with the first; just contact Dominic first. This means, you can probably fit four people or so at a time for a very good rate. <<CONS AND WORK-AROUNDS:>> 1) It really is on a busy street with a bus stop pretty close to the front door. The best work-around is if you can park on the side of the street that the house actually is at. Also, because it IS on a busy street, I recommend getting/bringing a pair of soft earbuds. A few times, there were loud cars and one time there was a fire truck that went down the street the night we were there. I usually sleep through most things, but fire truck is not one of those. If I had ear plugs though, I'm pretty sure I could've slept through it fine. 2) Someone mentioned it was weird that Dominic's bed is in the living room. I don't mind. It makes complete sense, actually; if all the rooms in a place are rented out and the owner does not have a separate house, then the living room is the most reasonable location for the owner, because the other alternative is the kitchen, which makes no sense. I don't really think this is a problem; think of it more as a check-in desk + security? 3) The door lock isn't what I'd prefer....but you can bring additional locks also, like addalock or something similar; it isn't super great, but probably better than nothing. Also, my guess is that normally, other people are there too. So, there's probably some safety in that. 4) There is no WiFi. But, because I was on the way to Hershey's and that was where we spent most of our time,....there IS a Starbuck's right outside of Hershey's park that has free WiFi. We spent some down time there making sure we checked emails, etc. etc. before heading back. <<WHO I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS FOR:>> People who: 1) Are on a budget and there for a couple of nights; spending daytime doing something fun. 2) Know how to parallel park. 3) Aren't super up-tight about small things. <<ADDITIONAL NOTES:>> 1) I had no idea which towels were whose or which ones were ok to use or not. Soooo, save yourself the trouble of trying to ask or figure that stuff out and just pack your own towels. Easier.
