Keep it simple in this traditional cottage lovingly called The Urbane Daffodil. This lovely cottage is right across the street from The Glen Lake Community Library and within walking distance to the Empire beach, area shops, the ever-famous Grocer’s Daughter Chocolate, and Tiffany’s Ice Cream, so you will have plenty to do right here in Empire. There are also lovely scenic drives to take while visiting our quaint Leelanau County. This cottage has been in the Urbane family since the early 1950s and has been filled with love ever since! The bedrooms are comfy and each has a queen or full bed (suitable for two guests) and at least one single. As a family cottage, our goal was to sleep as many people in comfy beds as possible, privacy wasn’t always the first goal. Please be mindful of the stairs as they are steep. There is a handrail to help in going up and down so please use it! Enjoy the backyard with your family and dogs, but please be aware that skunk and porcupines do tend to visit. Make sure your pets don’t get skunked or “pined” during your visit.

We two adults and one dog completely enjoyed our 4-day stay at Shelly and Paul’s cottage. The space is cozy, colorful and inviting, offering everything needed to get comfortable. Proximity to the beautiful Empire beach is without question, a major plus and the sweet little village, including an impressive library across the street, makes the cottage the perfect home base. Shelly and Paul are gracious hosts, extremely friendly, lovely people. Thanks so much!
A wonderful place to stay with a great host!! She went above and beyond from treats for my dog and a bottle of wine 🍷 The surrounding areas are beautiful and peaceful. A well spent weekend relaxing and taking in the last of the fall colors. The house is cozy and and comfortable with all you need plus extras to make you feel right at home!!
Enjoyed our stay! The host even left chocolates from a local shop which were so delicious we of course had to go buy more. 🙂

The Village of Empire is at the heart of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. Our lovely cottage is within walking distance of the Empire Bluff Trail, the Empire public beach, and only 7 miles from the Sleeping Bear Dunes hike as well as the Pearce Stocking Scenic Drive. We’re 23 miles from Traverse City should you want the “big city” feel, and have many lovely wineries to visit during your stay.
We are two blocks from the Empire beach and many local shops, so walking is an easy option. If you prefer to drive to the beach, parking is $1 an hour and can be paid at a kiosk at the Empire beach. Other areas surrounding Empire have free parking available or affordable options.
