Haruru is a small settlement of residential and farmland along Puketona Road. The lodge is 5 min away from its nearest attraction, Haruru Falls, and 10 min away from Paihia, the Jewel of the Bay of Islands.
Haruru Falls is a 5 metre block waterfall and was New Zealand’s first river port serving as a sea path along the Waitangi River to the Bay of Islands. It is a popular spot for scenic photos & kayaking with benches, picnic tables and newly refurbished public toilets. If you are looking for food and drinks, there are the Twin Pines Manor, Phat House Brewing Company and Snapper Shack.
From the falls, one can take the reasonably gentle and leisurely walking trail (1 hour) to the Waitangi Treaty grounds. Along the way, you can see the baby pied shags nesting (usually November) along the native tress along the river bank.
Using the car is the best way to explore the area. There are ample parking in the lodge for your cars (and boat!). Paihia has a large paid public car park in Williams Road. There is also two charging stations adjacent to the car park for electric vehicles.
There is a large Countdown Waitangi supermarket for groceries at the beginning of Puketona Road with Caltex and Waitomo stations for petrol and diesel just nearby it. There is also a smaller 4 Squares supermarket in Paihia town.
