Rathconrath · 牧羊人小屋 · 1室1床1.5卫 · 可住2人 · Lakeside Hut and Hot Tub on Thirty Acres of meadow
Enjoy the natural beauty surrounding this historic getaway. Immersed in nature this gorgeous 20ft long Hut is nestled by the shores of Mount Dalton Lough within a beautiful 30 acre meadow which you will have all to yourself (except perhaps some animals passing through!). Although the hut is completely off grid it has all of the amenities you are used to like hot showers, electricity along with a wood burning stove. Enjoy the gorgeous view from the wood burning hot tub it’s all yours!! The beauty of this place is that there are no shared spaces it’s all yours!! The Sheperds Hut has one double bed, wardrobe area and storage for luggage. It has a living room area with wood burning stove and kitchen. When sitting in the living your view is looking across at the meadow and lake. The bathroom has a shower, handbasin and toilet. Outside there is a gorgeous wood burning hot tub surrounded by meadow and looking out on the beautiful view. There are a lot of resident wildlife on the land a cock pheasant who sometimes peeks in at you when your having your coffee in the morning and loves to run in front of the car the whole way off the land he’s very handsome but not the brightest so please drive slowly :) there are also falcons their amazing and you can watch them shriek and swoop over the land as the hunt and sometimes land on the hut so you can see them up close their huge! There’s also lots of Pygmy Shrews that your almost guaranteed to see so cats are welcome but please pop a little bell on them so my shrews have a head start :) The hut is completely off grid but with all of the comforts of home.
It was a lovely stay, in an amazingly beautiful secluded location🙂 The weather unfortunately was not in our favor but even in the rain it was a gorgeous stay. The only slight issue was that the hotub needed roughly 5h to heat up and the lighter at the Airbnb was not working and the shower head (the large one) for some reason didn’t have the hottest water. But all in all it was a great stay with a fast response and friendly host 😊
Liz's place was gorgeous , we really enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and our dog loved exploring the grounds! The hot tub was a real treat in the sunset. Thank you Liz!
Liz’s cabin in Rathconrath was stunning. Such an incredible location, the perfect little getaway when you want to disconnect. The hot tub takes quite a while to heat up but that’s ok when you have such beautiful scenery to enjoy while you wait. Couldn’t recommend this place enough and our dog Buster thinks so too!
Liz’s place marched the description perfectly and was exactly what my partner and I were after! The setting was perfect with ample space for our two furry friends. Liz gave us great recommendations for food and drinks. We would definitely come back again and will be booking in the coming months 😊
Rathconrath is gorgeous quaint little village. The land and hut are set on Ballymahon road approx. 15-minute drive from Mullingar and approx. 1 hour drive from Dublin. The area where the hut is based is very rural with just meadow, trees and lake in sight. There is one pub in Rathconrath called Gunnings which is about a 15-minute walk and its gorgeous (pictures on the listing), The area has huge cultural significance with The Hill of Uisneach nearby and the land itself boasting castle ruins, a fairy fort and a Crannog.
There is parking on the site. I would recommend having a car so you can easily enjoy the local area there are really beautiful drives. If you are using public transport, I would recommend getting the bus or train to Mullingar and then it's a 15-minute taxi ride from there. Here are some helpful distances for you to some must see local areas and attractions;
Hill of Uisneach - 9 minute drive
Castletown Gaeghan -13 minute drive
Mullingar - 15 minutes
Glasson - 25 minutes
Dublin Airport - 1 hour 10 minutes via M4
Galway - 1 hr 29 minutes
Athlone - 35 minutes
Fore Abbey - 30 minutes
Lough Derravaragh (Home to the Children of Lir) - 32 minutes
Lough Owel - 15 minutes
Lough Ennell - 12 minutes
There is a gorgeous local pub called Gunnings in Rathconrath it’s walking distance and definitely worth a visit! If you are walking I’d recommend a torch and a hi vis cover for your jacket as there are no street lights on my road it’s very rural! I have left torches and Hi Vis in the hut which you can use.
Fox’s pub in loughnavalley is just a few minutes down the road (in the car) it’s full of character and a great place to meet the locals it opens at 7:45 pm each evening.
If your driving and would still like rural I’d recommend Drakes pub in Castletown great fun and full of locals. Castletown also has a great little pizza place where you can sit outside if it’s sunny with pizzas and wine or beers.
If you would prefer a meal, more variety and or a club then Mullingar or Athlone are great options.
If you like cycling there is the old rail trail in Castletown an old rural railway line has been converted to a cycle path it’s beautiful and there’s no cars it’s between loughnavalley and Castletown a few minutes drive our short cycle from the land.
