We had a very peaceful relaxing time at Hangley cottage. Shelley has made the space very relaxing and welcoming. The kitchen is well stocked. Having a utility area is great if you need to wash and dry clothes in the case of wet weather. And to have a traditional Rayburn as well. Icing on the cake. The bed was super comfortable with crisps cotton linen. The views from the house great. Easy access and good parking.

This cottage was the perfect place to enjoy some peace and quiet, it's very remote and has beautiful surroundings. There is a guide in the cottage to some walking routes, and lots of information on the local area. The living room and bedroom were really comfortable and cosy and we enjoyed our time there. The location was very good for exploring Exmoor and the North Devon coast. A couple of things that could have improved our stay would be adding a few small touches. Considering it's a remote location and not many shops nearby, it would be great to have a few things there for guests when they arrive for example some milk in the fridge, or some toiletries in the bathroom (and another loo roll!), as it felt very bare (a hairdryer would be handy as well but it's not a huge issue!). The signal isn't very good in that area, but I sent Shelley a message when we had arrived asking a question, and it took a long time to respond. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay!

The place is really cosy, bedding lovely, kitchen is well equipped, lounge comfortable, dog friendly. Beautiful setting and perfect for walking. Just lacking a few touches for the almost £100 per night. Having used Airbnb many times, we’ve found that other places leave little niceties…biscuits, local produce, etc. This isn’t expected but a pint of milk in the fridge would have been appreciated. We had difficulty finding the place due to intermittent internet in the area. As we’d arrived around 4pm, by the time we’d settled in, we had to drive into Barnstaple to find a shop open in the evening. As it was through country lanes with fog, it took us over an hour to do the round trip. Not a problem in itself, but it would have been helpful to us to know there are no local shops open in the evening. I’m assuming most people who book rural retreats are from towns/suburbs and would appreciate being made aware of this. Only cleaning product was fairy liquid. Handwash only in main bathroom.

This was a cottage of contrasts, some luxury (bedding) some down points. On the plus side , the cottage is in beautiful countryside and the Rayburn kept us warm all day and night along with the lovely wood burner. Sadly attention to detail was lacking and so our stay didn’t go as smoothly or as comfortably as it could have. Perhaps this was a one-off and things will improve for others.

Shelley accommodated us well last minute, however was unresponsive when we had queries and linen / bathroom not clean.
