South Cape DC · 整套民居 · 3室4床3.0卫 · 可住6人 · Beautiful country home on the Garden Route!
NO LOAD SHEDDING! An off-the-grid rural home situated on farmland overlooking the majestic Outeniqua mountains, yet only 15 km from Sedgefield. Located midway on the magnificent Garden Route, it makes for a convenient & comfortable base from which to explore its many wonders. Hiking trails abound & the Garden Route Trail Park is a mere 8 km away making this ideal for cyclists, outdoor enthusiasts & nature lovers. The setting is quiet, safe & peaceful, and encourages rest & rejuvenation too! The home is on our 5 hectares of Garden Route property. We have 4 dams (empty at the moment due to the drought) and a hectare of the property is being cultivated as a garden to attract birds, bees and insects. The home is a sturdy log home, traditional to the area, with comfortable and relaxed living and sleeping areas that accommodate 6. A large outdoor deck facing north is equipped with a Weber braai, a dining and seating area, and a hammock and hanging chair for lazy restful days! An outdoor entertainment area down a flight of stairs offers a firepit and a large table for dining and relaxing under a Wisteria-covered pergola. For winter breaks, the lounge has an open wood burning fireplace (there is a plentiful supply of wood), and there are lots of cosy blankets and hot water bottles to keep you warm and toasty. By being off the power and municipal grid, we embrace a more sustainable and purposeful life at Mount View Lodge. It’s an opportunity to form a deeper connection with nature and greatly reduce your individual carbon footprint. It’s also a way to live a gentler life for a while. Candlelight, reading, playing games, napping, actually communicating! The disadvantage is that you may have to forego some modern conveniences. Like an uninterrupted power supply in rainy weather and being able to have all the electrical appliances in the house on at the same time. It means being acutely aware of where your power and water comes from and making hay while the sun shines. There is a generator for use during rainy weather. Beautiful pure rainwater is stored in tanks for household use. We are also very aware of plastic pollution and limit our use as much as is possible. There is no single use plastic at all. and we urge you to make use of the recycling and compost bin. The property is on a slope with access via staircases. It is therefore not wheelchair friendly. Dams and a pond close to the house are unfenced and small children, therefore, need to be closely supervised outside. However, there are gates at each access point off the decks. Please note that it is a rural property with rustic surrounds.
This home is spacious, beautifully decorated and equipped with absolutely everything you might need. Barbara was quick to communicate with us regarding any queries we had during our stay. Off the Grid Living: We stayed here for 6 days, and were only affected for a few hours at the end of one of our days, when we needed to turn on the generator as the solar batteries were depleted. Else, we were not even cognizant of the fact. Thank you Barbara for the welcome wines and freshly squeezed lemon juice!
We had a wonderful Easter weekend - thank you both Barbara and Keith for being great hosts, we felt at home and loved all the special touches. It was also nice to experience living off grid. It felt like we were living in a tree house - sitting on the terrance we could watch the birds in the trees while over-looking the most beautiful view of pure nature - such a lovely, peaceful place!
We keep coming back here , the view , the country atmosphere , everything is just perfect .
Words will do injustice to this wonderful spot . A happily situated house with amazing views in the middle of the nature at its best . Quiet , clean , extremely comfortable, great large patio overlooking inspiring vistas . Molly , Quinn and Kingsley , you made our stay even more memorable! Our heart is forever stolen by Molly , whose amazing instincts saved our little Stanley . Thank you Barbara and Keith , I hope you will welcome us again , as we can't wait to be back !
Mount view lodge was the most fantastic house. Coming from the coast it was great staying in the country but also being close to the sea for daily swims. The interior was lovingly decorated and you could see the attention to detail. We loved the white and off white textured and decor. The kitchen had everything we needed and the outdoor area was so lovely. From the well equipped deck to the gorgeous long dining table under the trees next to a firepit. We enjoyed lazy evenings on the deck and many a braai. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend it as a peaceful getaway but close enough to knysna and Sedgefield to see some of the garden route. Thanks Barbara and Keith!
It's an extremely beautiful part of South Africa's Garden Route. The property itself is special with big gardens and land to wander through with prolific birdlife.
You'll need a rental car to get around in order to explore the lakes, forests, lagoons and mountains that make this part of the country so beautiful. There is no public transport or Uber in the region.
For MTB enthusiasts, the Garden Route Trail Park and Farleigh MTB Trail are an easy (level) ride away. There are also numerous hiking trails within easy reach.
