If anyone knows how to be amazing hosts it’s Sarah and Andy! Not only was every expectation met but they went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as comfortable and easy as possible. The view was beautiful and we had complete privacy throughout our stay, including the hot tub. They made our stay so enjoyable it was hard to leave. Thank you Sarah and Andy!

Redruth and Carn Brea – what can you find near us?
Located in West Cornwall at the heart of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, Redruth is strategically located where Cornwall’s main east-west route crosses the Red River. An important market town in the 14th century, from the 18th century it flourished as the commercial centre of Cornwall’s international mining industry. Today, Redruth is unknown to many visitors to Cornwall and yet it is superbly located for easy access to some of the most beautiful locations in this county of beautiful locations. Whether it is walking, cycling, swimming, surfing or just taking in a stunning sunset on Carn Brea that takes your fancy, a few nights at Cornerways offers a taste of Cornish hospitality, local knowledge and a great opportunity to wind down.
Our house, Cornerways, which is very near the village of Carn Brea sits on the edge of the Unesco World Heritage Site, The Great Flat Lode, a series of disused mines that form a fascinating trail following the southern granite slopes of Carn Brea. The area boasts many lovely walks of varying lengths and gradients, many of which offer wonderful views to the North Coast, St Agnes Head, St Ives’ Bay and – on a clear day – to the South Coast. Carn Brea Castle which is visible from the house, was originally a 14th century hunting lodge but is now a great restaurant with a middle-east influenced menu. The Bassett monument, a tall obelisk, stands near the castle and is one of the key landmarks in the area, visible from over 20 miles.
From our house, you can reach some beautiful beaches quickly and easily (by car). Our nearest beaches are Portreath and Porthtowan and have all the best characteristics of the North coast – tall, exposed cliffs; wide beaches of golden sand and the possibility to surf when conditions allow. Portreath and Porthtowan regularly have life-guards on duty.
Chapel Porth, with a smaller but no less dramatic beach, is the start of some wonderful cliff walks in either direction. To the East, the SW Footpath takes in Wheal Coates, a former tin mine, now preserved by the National Trust (NT) on its way to Trevaunance Cove and St Agnes.
We have lived in Cornwall for many years and on arrival, you will find a detailed guide of our favourite places that we go to, if we are having a day out. This part of Cornwall offers the visitor a wake up call to the senses and a visit here will leave you memories worth treasuring.
