Perched on the river banks, Besides Still Waters is a rustic, beautiful, eco friendly, self-catering resort where you will be refreshed & surrounded by nature. Watch sun rises from the deck of your luxury tent & later, enjoy the camp fire preparing your evening braai (bbq) This is Uganda at it’s best! Besides Still Waters offers 3 beautiful luxury tented lodges and one small cottage, each accommodating two people, for that special intimate experience and a place to rest and get away from it all! The road to us from Kampala or Jinja is good and we have just a couple of kilometers of murrum road from the turn off which is regularly graded. Its the ideal place for couples or singles wanting to hang out together, a family reunion, a family with older children, an intimate couple time or hosting a small work or ministry retreat. The price of €85 per night (airbnb charges on top) is for each luxury tented lodge accommodating 2 people. Please insert 2, 4, or 6 people in the booking for one, two or three tents that you would like to use. Our 3 luxury tents, each with a double bed, are spaced to give maximum privacy, and each boasting breathtaking views of the river. They are situated under thatch roofs, have beautiful wooden floors and large outside decks with safari chairs and a coffee table for you to enjoy your drinks whilst you capture the incredible beauty of the area. An en suite bathroom offers solar generated hot showers - one of which is outside giving you a view of the river whilst showering. They are uniquely furnished, African style, with antique furniture, old trunks, antelope/zebra skins, carved wooden plaques, ostrich eggs, African fabrics and ornaments which we have collected on our travels throughout Africa. Beautiful art and craft are on the walls of the lodges. Blankets are available for those cooler nights . and shawls are in each of the chest of drawers if you need them for sitting around the campfire at night. Near the 3 lodges is a fully equipped open bush kitchen and has everything you need for a wonderful braai / bbq / or stove cooking with a comfortable seating area around the campfire nearby. A solar fridge, gas stove, 2 French presses, milk frother, grills, bush toaster, metal skewers and cast iron pots and pans are all available. Various different teas including Ugandan tea and coffee, sugar, oil and lots of herbs and spices are for your use. Our friendly manager will be available to assist you at all times. He, or one of our staff, will provide the wood, set up & light the campfire each evening, put out the bamboo torches & lanterns and wash your dishes after your meals. Our manager can organise getting delicious freshly caught fish (tilapia) for you to put on the braai ( bbq) or a tasty goat muchomo - a Ugandan campfire dish - if you give him enough notice to buy for you. For an additional fee he can bbq these for you. If camp fire cooking isn’t for you, a lovely cook who can prepare both appetising Ugandan or European dishes, or serve you only a delicious breakfast, can be hired for a reasonable fee. Please ask for details. For a more intimate dining experience to savour your meals in, there is an open dining tent, tucked in amongst the trees, also looking out onto the great River Nile. Fairy lights on the chandelier, oil lamps and lanterns will be put out in the dining area & around the campfire creating a lovely cosy atmosphere in the evening. With over 1000 species of birds to discover in Uganda - 583 in Jinja - and having planted over 200 trees, & allowing the bush to grow back on the river banks, it’s also a fabulous place for birders! We also see vervet and red tailed monkeys from time to time, nile monitor lizards coming up from the river banks, the occasional sighting of a pangolin and recently at night, a porcupine, a white tailed mongoose & genet cat. We also hear the distinct call of the tree hyrax. We have binoculars for your use and enjoyment in each of the lodges. The River Nile and Lake Victoria offer great opportunities for fishing and Besides Still Waters is the perfect place to return to braai ( bbq) your catch! Being the adventure capital of East Africa, Jinja has a large selection of water sports or land activities in the area for everyone to enjoy. We can help book these as well as transport, if needed, to them. White water rafting, ( grade 5) kayaking, quad biking, tubing, boat cruisers, horse riding, & hiking in a tropical rainforest (Mabira forest) to name a few! Jinja is only 25 minutes drive away where the famous Source of the river Nile is located and which is worth a visit! Check out my guide book for details. We offer a Hamper Service for those who are not coming from home, or who run out of food, providing high quality meats for the bbq from the butchery (The Deli) in Jinja, which also sell some veggies, cheeses, cold cuts, fresh bread & South African wines. Please ask for further details if you are interested. On the other side of the property stands a small, tastefully furnished, lofted cottage which has a sitting/ dining room and fully equipped kitchen. A spiral staircase leads to the lofted bedroom upstairs with a double bed, comfortable armchairs & a dressing table. So if you come with a party of eight or if you prefer to be in a cottage ( accommodates 2 ) rather than a luxury tent, this can be booked on the listing Cottage Besides Still Waters. It has a forest view from the patio downstairs and a river view from the veranda upstairs from which the bedroom opens onto. There is also a braai ( bbq ) built close to the cottage with plenty of wood for your camp fire meals. As we are in the village, there are only few local shops with limited produce so it's best to bring your own food and drink with you or use our Hamper Service or let our cook / manager cook for you. You are then ready to enjoy this special place to the fullest!
