Nestled in the bush alongside a quiet stretch of the mighty White Nile, you will find a small, self contained, lofted cottage. With a beautiful forest view from the front and a river view from the upstairs bedroom's veranda, it is the perfect place for a single person or a couple to escape from the city's hustle and bustle. This rustic eco friendly cottage, accommodates one or two people and is in the grounds of Besides Still Waters where 3 luxury tents / bush kitchen/ campfire area / dining tent are rented out also. The cottage is rented when guests come in a group of 8 or particularly for those who would prefer not to be in a tent and have an inside kitchen. It stands on the other side of the property giving enough space & privacy for both sets of guests to be completely separate. It’s small, quaint and comfortable and furnished African style with African wall hangings, carved plaques, an antique clock, Maasai fabrics and wildlife paintings. The kitchen consists of a cooker with an oven, solar fridge, a selection of good knives, loads of utensils and high quality pots and pans - everything you need to make your own meals. A spiral staircase leads you upstairs to the muvule floored bedroom, the doors of which open up onto a deck where two comfortable chairs are and where you can have your morning coffee as you watch the sun rise over the Nile and enjoy the chorus from the birds. An outside braai (BBQ) area is ready for your use, not far from the cottage with plenty of wood for campfire cooking. There is a terrific discount if you want to rent it on a monthly basis

Das Paradies liegt am Nil! Besides still waters war der erste Stop auf unserer Reise durch Uganda - aber auch der schönste. Johnson (der Housekeeper) kümmert sich um alles und gibt dem Ort seine Seele. Kochen in der Offene Küche, Dinner am Lagerfeuer, und einfach beobachten, wie der Nil langsam vorbei fließt. Es war wirklich schön. Johnson hat und außerdem eine Kanufahrt mit einem Fischer auf dem Nil organisiert, köstliches Barbecue (Fisch+Ziege) zubereitet und jeden Abend ein Lagerfeuer gemacht. Das Cottage ist sehr gemütlich und sehr schön dekoriert. Alles was man sich wünsche könnte ist da. Aus dem Bett lässt sich der Sonnenaufgang beobachten. Auf der Terasse hat meinen wunderschönen Blick auf den Nil. Wir sind für eine weitere Nacht in eines der Safarizelte gezogen. Auch diese waren wunderschön und die Openairdusche mit Blick auf den Fluss ist etwas ganz besonderes. Wer Ruhe und Erholung sucht, wird diese im Paradies „by the still waters“ finden.

Besides Still waters is situated in a friendly rural neighbourhood, 17k outside Jinja, the adventure capital of East Africa. The area offers activities to choose from for everyone to enjoy.
White water rafting, ( grade 5) kayaking, paddle boarding, tubing, horse riding, quad biking, bungee jumping, fishing, birding, boating and swimming are all available. See my guide on this site.
We don’t have our own pool yet but you can request to use the pool at one of the two lodges nearby if they are not fully booked. Details are in the welcome book in each of the lodges or in my online guide book on this site.
Walks can be taken on the land or outside the property to the peninsula to the surrounding area or hikes in the surrounding area or in Mabira forest, a rainforest covering 300 square kilometers 35 minutes away.
We should like to invest in our community as much as possible - at times we sell beautiful floor mats made of palm leaves by several ladies nearby. Bananas, local yellow yolked eggs & some vegetables may also be obtained.

Your vehicle can be parked safely in the fenced compound of Besides Still Waters.
Our local murrum roads are frequently graded so a normal car is fine in reaching us however in the rainy season, depending on the severity of the rains, it might be better coming in a 4X4.
Taxi motorbikes or taxis can be ordered through our site manager to take you to the various activities in the area if you come without a vehicle.

Uganda was home to me in my formative years & I returned years later with my husband & we raised our three, now adult, children here. My husband & I created Besides Still Waters, an intimate, eco friendly oasis on the banks of the magnificent River Nile where you can find peace for your soul. We are excited to be able to share it with you! I’m not there to welcome you but our very capable Manager will. I can however be contacted at all times.
