Ali was a very helpful host and his guesthouse was run by very kind and hospitable people. They offered us tea upon arrival, we’re willing to adapt our rooms as we needed, and gave good tips about how to navigate Khiva city. There was a minor miscommunication regarding the fortress tour they offered to coordinate for us. Instead of seeing several sites, we only saw 2 in the 6 hours we were touring. Overall it was a good experience and we would recommend Ali’s guesthouse to our friends!

Ali's place was good, but not great. First of all, Ali was not there. He had to go to Tashkent and his assistant managed the place. His assistant was OK. The location is fantastic! It is a two minute walk from all the sights in Khiva. Also, the rooftop terrace was a great place to relax and watch the sunrise or sunset. The rooms are much smaller than they appear in the photos. As far as breakfast goes, the first day it was just cold breads, a few pieces of cheese, a little fruit and meat and instant coffee. The cook later brought out some potato pancakes which were excellent. Ali's assistant said that the coffee machine was broken. When we arrived at breakfast the next day, other guests were eating eggs. We thought it was strange that we weren't offered eggs the day before. Day 2 & 3, the breakfast was somewhat better. We were only given more toilet paper, soap or garbage bags if we asked. No one in three days checked on the room. So would I still recommend this lodging? Probably yes.
