Ubicado dentro de la famosa escuela de español de San Juan, Katy's Garden es el lugar perfecto para relajarse, oler el aire fresco de la montaña y nadar en el excepcional lago de Atitlán. La propiedad está ubicada en una calle lateral pequeña y tranquila, y detrás de una puerta segura en una pequeña finca bananera. ENGLISH You will have a private room with a private bathroom and shower ensuite, a small lockable clothing closet with drawers, and a work desk & chairs. The kitchen is separate and shared. Nestled within the famous San Juan Spanish School, Katy’s Garden is the perfect place to relax, smell the fresh mountain air, and swim in the exceptional Lake Atitlan. The property is located off a small, quiet side street, and behind a secured gate in a small banana farm. Once you enter the property, please enjoy the stunning patio equipped with outdoor tables and chairs to experience the tranquil garden setting. The property has 3 adjacent rooms that each look out over the garden area. If available and interested, please inquire regarding renting the entire property for family events or private parties. There is a separate kitchen complete with everything you need to prepare simple meals, make some delicious local coffee, and blend fresh smoothies. There is an additional shared outdoor shower and restroom located behind the garden for guests or when you prefer more privacy. Just up the street, you will find corner stores coffee shops, a larger Mercado filled with delicious restaurants, cafes, and delicious street food (try the bbq street food). San Juan - experience the rich culture of chocolate, coffee, and textiles, hike to the Mirador viewpoint or Indian Nose, and quickly boat to any adjacent town for ~ 20Q. Spanish classes and tours of our women-run farming project are available for an additional charge upon request.

Good location and the host was really friendly and kind. The garden was actually bigger than it looked on the photos which was a pleasant surprise. The Spanish school is on-site which is an added bonus if you are considering to learn Spanish at the same time. The room was spacious and clean. The only small downside was the slow drainage in the shower.
5 stars is not enough! I stayed with Katy and Eligio for a week and I felt super comfortable and at peace. Eligio set up transportation from the airport for me and met me at the accommodation. I was able to have Spanish lessons short notice. The courtyard is just beautiful and full of fruit trees. My room was very large and better than the pictures online. I highly recommend staying here.

You have a beautiful view of the mountains and you can relax on the hammocks. I felt comfortable throughout my stay. The best part of staying here is Rey (the world’s cutest kitten). I would come back from exploring the town and Rey would be there waiting to hang out. I’ll miss him!! Until next time!
I couldn't have landed in such a great place. spacious room, better than the pics. Hot showers, cute garden kitchen that was a lovely meeting spot for other guests ( up to 3 max) so nice to chat, really friendly place. Tucked away away, so private, yet on the main street for all you need. Eligio was a fabulous host, helpful, friendly, responsive in every way. He advised many ways to see the villages and how to navigate yourself. The garden is a gorgeous oasis of calm and serenity. Would thoroughly recommend kicking back and relaxing 😌 here. I cancelled my trip to Antigua to immerse myself. Did the rostro mayan tour, excellent. Lots to do and see in beautiful San Juan. Gonna miss it.
I enjoyed my first weekend at Katy’s Garden in March so much that I returned for the whole month of May. San Juan is one of the prettiest towns I’ve ever visited, and this gem is the perfect base - very near the top of Umbrella Street but tucked at the end of a quiet little alley so it’s very peaceful. Loved getting up early, making coffee in the little communal kitchen hut and enjoying the garden and the view of Rostro Maya from the end of the veranda. Was lucky enough to be there during a banana harvest! Eligio, Katy’s father, arranged Spanish classes for me, and my wonderful teacher Veronica came to the garden every afternoon. Eligio is also a painter and very involved in San Juan’s renowned mural projects. Overall excellent value compared to more expensive places I stayed in other towns on the lake and, like all of San Juan, it’s locally owned - so important for a healthy community. Hope to return soon!
