Built in the 1840s and originally named the Centreville Hotel, the Inn is located on the Old Spanish trail (Hwy 182) about 65 miles west of New Orleans. Centerville and all towns located on Bayou Tech were developed by cotton and sugar cane planters that supplied Europ with these commodities that fetched high profits for the time. Many guests at the time were businessmen who sold hardware and steel products needed for sugar mills and cotton gins. Today, Oil is King and major employers. The building was first described as a hotel-house. There are presently five bedrooms. Rooms one and three have king sized beds, room two and five have queen size beds and room four has a full-size bed. There is the lobby, parlor, dining room, front and rear porches and kitchen/Laundry rooms that are all considered common spaces. Security cameras are located on all entry doors on exterior and one in the kitchen.
When we were planning our visit to Franklin, LA for a family wedding, I was thrilled to find the nearby Centerville Steamboat Inn which could accommodate my whole family of 6 adults, 1 child and two toddlers. From the moment we entered the Inn, we felt at home. The photos seemed to come alive as we explored the many rooms. The Inn was beautiful -- elegant, yet warm and inviting. Our hosts, Charles and Wesley were kind and attentive southern gentlemen. They made us feel most welcome. There was plenty of room to sit and relax; the beds were comfy; and there were enough bathrooms so we could all get ready in time for the wedding. My sweet grand-daughters loved looking at all the Easter bunny decorations in the dining room and it was wonderful to have the large kitchen table to gather around as a family and celebrate my grandson's 7th birthday! Many thanks to Charles and Wesley for making our visit to Franklin and Centerville a lovely and memorable occasion!
This was such a beautiful place to take bridal photos and have our rehearsal supper. Even though we live a block from the place, we felt like we were in a completely different area. The house is beautiful, and the Christmas decorations were in place which only magnified the charm and beauty. If you are looking for place to take you back in time, but still provide modern comfort, this is it. The hosts were fabulous, and the history of the house and area that they shared with us was so entertaining. I loved everything about this place, and so did our guests. It is well worth it in every way!
Steamboat inn was a great stay — we were in town for a wedding and stayed just one night — house and the hosts were great! Wish we could have stayed longer!
Lovely historical building. Great place for my family and I to enjoy a much needed family vacation. We loved the antique feel of the place and all the little details that were present in each room. We did have a problem with a leaky roof in one of the bedrooms during our stay, but that was out of the hosts’ control, and it rained a lot the weekend we stayed. Overall, we had a great time.
Centerville is a unincorporated village in central St. Mary Parish, Louisiana about halfway between New Orleans and Lafayette.
One traffic light. One grocery market with hot meals available. Only K through twelfth grade school in the parish. Located on the lower Bayou Tech and lower Atchafalaya River Basin. Smaller than Mayberry. 🤏
The best way to get around this area is by car 🚘 or boat 🚤.
We do have a neighbor who is willing to take you out in his boat for a small fee.
自我介绍
I was born and raised here in Centerville, into the family of John Robert Sr. and Eva Simoneaux Luke. I am the youngest of thirteen children. My great great great Grandfather Antoine Luke arrived in America through the Port of New Orleans in the 1820's. His son John Baptist Luke like his father was a merchant marine selling dry goods in bayou country from his steam powered boat. I have always enjoyed story telling and story lessening. Preserving historic landmarks in my neighborhood with the St. Mary landmark society. Civil war history and battle sites in the area and the Old Spanish Trail. Birds of the south. Bird watching along the coast and in the Atachafalayah basin. The history of the Chitimachy Indians their casino and community. Local seafood and Cajun restaurants. Near by Lafayette and New Orleans. Unique bayous, lakes, swamps, marshes, bays and rivers to explore and fish in. The Saloman Northrop story and trail. The Bayou Teche canoeing trail. One of only 15 such trails in the United States. Oh, and we love dogs.
