Orchard Cottage - Awarded 4 Star Gold by VisitEngland Kick off your shoes, stare into the fire and relax in rural bliss A great laid-back style and a very relaxed atmosphere. Orchard Cottage has an eccentric character with quirky features. There are peaceful views over the Orchard and onto the countryside beyond. Situated in wonderful unspoilt Suffolk countryside. We welcome you to this cottage with a bottle of Fizz to help you unwind. Superfast Broadband is supplied to this cottage. Relax into the big comfy sofas and you will realise that actually you don’t want to go out, just being here sitting right now in this chair is exactly what you want: Relaxation has arrived! This is a comfy cottage full of eclectic character and quirky features, downstairs it has a stunning inglenook fireplace with a massive open log fire ready to go in it – above which hangs the old poacher’s gun we found hidden away in the barn – a big farmhouse table for friends to gather round and sofas and chairs to relax into. The well equipped kitchen has a tall Fridge with a 3 draw Deep-Freeze there is also a dishwater in Orchard Cottage. Upstairs there are two lovely large bedrooms with large exposed beams, and with peaceful views over the Orchard and onto the countryside beyond. One bedroom with a Kingsize bed (without a footboard you tall people will be happy to hear) and one bedroom with a Kingsize and a single bed, again no footboards. There is also a pretty shower room upstairs and exposed beams everywhere, a wonderful high vaulted and beamed ceiling and lovely reclaimed wood floors. Orchard Cottage was created out of the old hay and pigeon lofts that made up part of the long Eastern wall of the old enclosed farm quadrangles first built in the 1720’s. It is our biggest cottage on the Old Grove Farm and where this all started and the template for all the cottages on my website was created. The walls are soft red brick from the original 1720’s build, with some lime-washed hand plastering. This is a very cosy cottage where you can lose yourself not just in the tiny pretty lanes around but just by relaxing in the sofa and enjoying the massive log fire. There are lovely walks straight from the cottage – or take one of my bicycles – my favourite takes in the church and the hidden river valley and upstream to the local pub which has its own macro brewery and does some very tasty food. Reduced rate for 2 guests using just one bedroom outside High Season. Please note that if you put in the number of guests as 2 then it is assumed you will only require one bedroom. If you want to use 2 bedrooms then you should put in the number of guests as 3, because outside High Season this cottage will have a reduced rate for 2 guests using only one bedroom reflecting the saving made on laundry and cleaning. The Gardens There is a lovely mature orchard garden at the front of the cottage where guests can laze around under the apple and pear trees and have a BBQ in Summer, we have put out a nice table with a bench and chairs onto the patio directly outside Orchard Cottage with flowering plants beside it for you to enjoy watching the sunsets in privacy. There is a large courtyard with a big open sided cart lodge barn were guests can pull out a BBQ or sit in the barn which is is lit with fairy lights and candles and watch the night skies. There is also a small herb garden off the courtyard where you are welcome to take any herbs you wish. There is also an acre of Orchard and lawn with a pond at the back of the property where I have established some peaceful private areas with tables and chairs or benches and where I have planted some very rare apple trees. This is an ideal dog exercise area. You can walk directly from the gardens onto footpaths leading to the Church or Pub. The South Suffolk Cycle route runs past the cottage and I provide bikes for free. Great cottage in the countryside, with walks from going right past the property and great pubs nearby across the fields! The dogs loved it! Will be back for sure!
If you're looking for somewhere peaceful to stay as a base for country walks and cosy evenings, this is perfect. They're very happy for dogs to come along but you cannot let them off the lead outside your cottage (there is an area a 2-min walk away where you can let your dogs off) but good to know that to let them out to go to the toilet, you'll need to put them on a lead and go with them. The cottage itself was lovely - a converted barn/outhouse with all the country charm you can expect. Pros: Country Cottage Good location for walks Cosy Mark was a great host - very attentive - provided everything we needed for baby and local recommendations Quiet and Peaceful A great escape Dishwasher Cons Can't let dog off outside the cottage Have to pay for logs for woodfire Check-out is at 10.30am Have to drive to most pubs (except 1) so you'll need a designated driver There's vintage knives in the kitchen and we couldn't even cut our toast with them - maybe time to upgrade Oven wasn't too hot
A lovely weekend away with friends and the two dogs. Orchard Cottage was a great spot with fabulous walks straight from the door. Mark provided a map with lots of walks marked out which was extremely helpful. The cottage had everything you need for a cozy weekend away! The White Horse pub was a short walk away and was a great rustic pub to grab some dinner after a long muddy walk. We would love to return!
The old Grove Farm is surrounded by orchards and fields in lovely Suffolk Countryside.
You can walk across the fields to the local CAMRA pub which has its own Micro Brewery and is dog friendly.
Take one of my bicycles and enjoy exploring the beautiful Medieval Villages along the official Bicycle Route that passes by us.
There are footpaths in every direction from us.
You can take one of my bikes out for the day or drive down the single-track lanes that will end you up in beautiful Medieval Villages.
We have guests who arrive by train and taxi, and so rely on getting about on our bikes, but if you want to properly explore the local area you would need a car.
自我介绍
Hi I’m Mark After travelling the world I decided to settle down in Suffolk twenty years ago and started my own little business with a beautiful old derelict farm complex, which I converted into six lovely little cottages for people to escape from city life and enjoy the wonderfully rural experience that this area amazingly has, even with its close proximity to London. I love what I do and am ‘Hands On’ with welcoming guests to my own six cottages, as well as looking after my Cottage Agency that soon developed as other owners came asking me to take on their cottages and give them the same level of personal customer care, attention and promotion that we are known and appreciated for. I don’t want to be a huge company, I’m very happy to have a small agency where personal involvement is always the priority and where I can pick only places which I love and know inside out to join us. I am always available to answer any questions and above everything else I want you to be in a cottage that suits you, so you will become our ambassador. Please do ask me a question about this cottage and I will give you a very honest answer. Best Wishes Mark The Grove Cottages
