Charming studio apartment hidden in a steep, winding and picturesque cobblestone road in the peaceful part of the medieval city of Motovun. As a part of a eclectically refurbished 18th century house built on top of the second defence wall with a breathtaking view of the tranquil surroundings -vineyards and olive yards spread over the hills scattered with sleepy little villages, and overlooking rooftops of the houses in the neighborhood… After just a couple of steps up the inner staircase, one enters into what is the real jewel of the house: a calming, stylishly refurbished apartment accommodating 2 persons. What used to be just a floor in a classical 18th century Istrian house has now been meticulously redecorated to become a stylish accommodation unit delicately combining various styles and époques, aimed at providing an entirely new aesthetical dimension. The place abounds with beautiful little artefacts and design details catching the occupant’s eye at every corner some of witch were (re)made in the art studio situated in the basement. The 50 square meter apartment consists of a living and dining area, one bedroom, a small but fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom as well as a loggia. Apart from the magnificent views and early morning bird song you are welcome to enjoy a variety of books from the library, great selection of vinyl records or simply close your eyes and immerse yourself in the sound of silence.
We enjoyed our stay here last year so much that we returned, this time in the spring. Thanks to the more moderate climate, we could do even more outdoor activities. And thanks to Branko's excellent tips we discovered even more new places. Once again a perfect holiday at Branko's!
I can’t recommend this place enough! It was even better than the pictures!! We loved every minute of sitting on the balcony and playing chess by the fire at night.
The Birdhouse has to be the best Airbnb experience I’ve ever had. It’s one of the rare situations where it’s even better than the photos. Every detail has been so thoughtfully considered, from the collection of teddy bears and clocks to the working fireplace to the record collection to the ornate glassware to the sign welcoming you when you arrive. There is so much to love about staying here, and Branko is a world-class host. He was very responsive, gave detailed directions, and even paid for the parking so that I didn’t have to worry about finding a spot. He had the refrigerator stocked with meats, cereal, milk, and eggs, and had a carafe of wine and an assortment of crackers laid out for my arrival. I’m telling you, this was like staying at a 5-star hotel—and I haven’t even mentioned the incredible view or the unbelievable location. I cannot say enough good things about my stay here, or about Branko, or this amazing place. This is a true gem, worthy of all the praise
Branko had great driving instructions and was there to meet our car with a wave! We walked to apartment which has an outstanding view of the valley below at about 900 feet above sea level with quiet! So beautifully decorated as shown with many candles and lovely additions in the fridge. Blankets for outside seating, shampoo, bath gel, tasteful artwork, cozy bed with amazing views of the valley that will take your breathe away! We could live here ,that is how special this apartment and village are. We ate at a restaurant up the street that was the best food we had through our stays in Italy and Slovenia . Absolutely magical! Thank you Branko for a memorable stay, sad to leave you and Motovun
Wonderful apartment. Lovely view from the balcony across the vineyards and olive groves. The apartment was beautiful with lots of attention to detail and amenities. Host very thoughtfully provided many extra touches and even some food and drinks. Easy walk to everything within motovun. Would definitely recommend if staying in Motovun.
Motovun, a small but important medieval town in central Istria, situated on top of the hill, has a rich cultural heritage and today is one of the most visited cities in Istria. It is known for many things, among them for its exquisite local truffle cuisine, finest wines and the most iconic summer event – Motovun Film Festival, one of the best European film festival. Motovun is a great starting point for your other trips because it's location provides quick and easy access to other cities and places in Istria!
What makes Motovun extra special is an exceptional hospitality you can expect from local people, making your visit even more enjoyable.

Dear guest,
If you are coming from the direction of Rijeka, after passing the Učka tunnel, take the Lupoglav, Buzet exit. For me, this is the most beautiful way to get to Motovun because for the most part you pass through the Mirna canyon. On the way there are several Istrian gems that are definitely worth visiting such as Roč, Kotle, Hum, Buzet. After Istarske toplice on the hill on the left you will see Motovun and from the main road turn left over the bridge and start the ascent towards Motovun. When you reach the foot of Motovun, turn left towards a small parking lot and a toll booth. If you are coming from the direction of Rovinj / Pula / Pazin via Karojba, when you reach the foot of Motovun, turn right towards a smaller parking lot and a toll booth.
At this point, have your reservation ready (printed or ready on your mobile device) based on which you will be directed further towards the city by the access road.
After two sharp turns you will pass a row of houses on the left and you will arrive to the drop off zone. Drop off zone is a parking extension on the right, where a short stay is allowed for baggage unloading and accommodation in the apartment. After accommodation, it is necessary to move the car to the parking lot provided for guests of the apartment located below the cemetery. If you have any problems along the way just give me a call.
