My husband and I loved our stay at Penwarn Farm Lodge. From the very moment you arrive you feel at home. The farm is quite a drive from the main tar road, but there is ample signage along the way to reassure you that you're on the right track. As you enter the gate you're greeted with incredible views of the farm's dam/lake. The farm even boasts its own waterfall which was gushing with water during our visit. You can access the waterfall by taking a short walk from the farm's main dirt road (it's so safe and so worth it). The cottages themself are so clean and tastefully styled. Everything you need is supplied in the cottage as well as DSTV with incredible connection. The only thing you need to be aware of is that there is no WiFi in the cottages themselves and signal is pretty much non-existent in the cottages or surrounding areas. But there is WiFi in the reception area that works perfectly (and is a mere 1-minute walk from your front door). The Farm is around 16km from the main Underberg Road and about a 25km/30km drive from Underberg Town which has a Spar, Chemist, ATM, Petrol Stations etc. Should you wish to take a bit of a drive (around 45km or so), I highly recommend visiting Castle Garden, located within Drakensberg Gardens, for the most incredible hikes of your life. The entrance fee is R45 per person (for SA citizens) and around R70 for non-SA citizens that has to be paid in CASH. This is a must for your to-do list. I will certainly be back. This place is certainly home-away-from-home.
