Our family of 25 people (ages 1-68) had a wonderful time staying at the Chicken Coop in Randolph. It was a great homebase for visiting Bear Lake. During our stay, we also visited Minnetonka Caves and Fossil Butte National Monument, both nearby. We utilized the big field near the house for ultimate frisbee and soccer. We played lots of volleyball and appreciated a great net already set up in front of the house. Unfortunately, the hosts were out of town so we were not able to utilize the Hick Waterslide and the horse rides. I’m sure that would have been awesome. This is a great option for family reunions and youth camps. There’s lots of space and lots of beds! You should definitely know that this is a more rustic atmosphere. It’s very casual. You take care of yourself and clean up after yourself. You need to plan to clean the kitchen and bathrooms and vacuum before you leave. That said, when you arrive it may not be sparkling clean if the guests before you did a poor job. The house itself is very cute and the hosts provided clean towels and the beds were all made with clean sheets, pillows and bedspreads. We would recommend that you bring two box fans to help cool the cabin as there is not AC. The cabin kept pretty cool but the fans helped in the daytime— especially when we were cooking. We would also recommend that you bring the kitchen items you need. It has a lot of stuff, but not everything. If you’re planning to cook a lot, bring a few extra pots and mixing bowls, big spoons, can opener, and a cutting board. They have electric griddles, cookie sheets, measuring cups/spoons, one big pot and one mid-size pot, knives, and around 20 plastic plates/bowls. I won’t list everything but, if there’s something you really need to make sure you have, bring it. The one other note is to say that the water pressure is pretty terrible in the kitchen and one of the bedrooms. You just have to adapt to the trickle. You also need your guests to bring their own shampoo and soap. I’ve given these suggestions just to help other guests prepare. We would definitely stay at the Chicken Coop again. We felt like it was an excellent price for the accommodations. It really was perfect for our family. The location is excellent. It’s just a really great place to get away from the hubbub of the city. We loved it!

This was not a good stay for us. There were problems with the property we felt were significant. If you want an indoor camping experience for a large group and these would not be an issue for you go ahead and book. We’ll never be back and do not recommend this place No microwave One of the 4 toilets not working Layer of dirt and dust on kitchen surfaces upon arrival. Mirrors not clean and covered with spots and grime Low water pressure in sink Slow water pressure in showers—such that half our party opted not to shower at all during our stay Left side of the sink slow drain and smelled Fridge and stove dirty and fridge dirty with food left from previous guests (We cleaned the fridge ourselves) Floor dusty and dirty Dead bugs on beds No locks on any doors including exterior doors to enter the cabin/house WiFi cut out halfway during our stay and we didn’t have for the duration. Note: The owner offered us a 10% discount for our patience and told us good luck finding a place that lived up to our standards.
