As a medical student doing a rotation in Yonkers, it was difficult to find a place to stay for just 6 weeks (I was staying over Christmas so some other places couldn’t rent at that time) because there aren’t many places for students to stay. Fortunately I stumbled upon Leila’s place! Located in a quiet part of town, about a 6-8 minute drive from the hospital, it was perfect for studying. Leila and John were very welcoming and understood that because I was a student I would be coming and going at odd hours, would need quiet, and would be spending most of my time in my room studying. They were more than accommodating and were always available to answer any questions I had. It was also a bonus that I was able to get a bit of dog therapy while I was there!

100% recommendable! Leila and John were excellent hosts who make you feel at home. The room is spacious and has a desk to work. Breakfast is included and on weekends they surprise you with an original recipe. It’s in a very quiet and natural place. Close to the train that takes you directly to the city!

Leila and John are wonderful hosts- friendly, helpful, but also give you your own space. The room was comfortable, actually pretty large (at least by UK standards), clean, and had everything I needed. Shared bathroom with one other guest and that worked fine...was also very clean and plenty of hot water. The location is good- you'll get a good night's sleep as its quiet and a safe neighbourhood....there are a variety of transport options so convenient as a base to explore NY and much more affordable than staying in the centre. You do have to like dogs if you want to stay here, but even if you're not the biggest fan, they are all well-behaved. Leila is an exceptional trainer who works some kind of magic with the dogs. Highly recommend staying here.

Leila and John are super warm and I enjoyed my stay. Leila is very easy to reach and always ensured I was comfortable. They have a communal area where you can eat fruit, bread, have your morning cereal, Leila might surprised you with sweet treats (I enjoyed them!) or have a cup of green teas (like I did) and chat with Leila. She extended herself to give my advice on things to do around Yonkers since it was my first time in town. The room is nice, spacious, and calm. It is conveniently located to public transportation bus-subway/ metro north. The neighborhood is quite and I enjoy looking through windows and see nature. Thanks Leila and John for hosting me!!

I stayed with John and Leila during the summer of my internship near Westchester County. Their place is very accessible to the nearest train station and not too far away from the city. I had a great time during my stay as I got to interact with the hosts, share some knowledge about my culture and meet some cute dogs. If you are someone who cooks often like me, you will not be able to use the kitchen during the day and it can be tough to cook every day. However, you can discuss it with Leila and she can help out with that. John is very knowledgeable about nearby places to visit and you should ask him how to get around. He is also a great cook and you can get to enjoy some delicious Sunday morning American breakfast during your stay. If you're staying for several weeks, it might take their dog a while to get used to you so keep that in mind.
