'Alma Cheia Costa Vicentina' is the renovation of an old adobe house surrounded by countryside in the heart of the Vicentina Coast Natural Park in the Southwest Portuguese coast. The sea, a mere 300 meters away, and sunsets are visible from the place which is surrounded by wild nature, fauna and flora. The project by PM-ARQ and decoration by the owner, Architect Maria José Sacchetti use local traditional craftmanship, sustainable design and contemporary fixtures for comfort and functionality. This stylish house is open to the wild nature that surrounds it and it welcomes the local fauna and flora to be part of the space through the large windows. The house is close to the pristine beaches of this southwest coast. It is part of a calm countryside scenery by the ocean. Our concern was to preserve the old adobe (taipa) house and restored it using local architectural culture and traditional constructive knowledge. The irregularities of the original wide adobe walls were kept and the whole was plastered by body movements by those who still know how to do it. The roof was rebuilt with an intrinsic old traditional work of wood and canes and the original old roof tiles with their natural tinted shades were re-used. Another concern was to use the most ecological, sustainable and high quality Portuguese materials and fixtures as possible, taking in consideration the preservation of the Natural Park. Solar panels for heating water and a biological septic tank were placed. The architectural language is minimal and refine, composed of horizontal lines, white walls and generous openings to the exterior. A fully equipped kitchen is open into the dining area located in front of a large window. On the other side in an open space, there is the lounge area with a fireplace and white sofas facing a symmetrical large window. The bedrooms have modern and high-quality mattresses and 100% cotton high quality white bedlinens produced in Portugal. The bathrooms are equipped with modern fixtures and walk-in showers all set with Portuguese traditional white tiles. You will find traditional Portuguese soaps there. For the decoration, design was mixed with local handcrafted techniques: there are pieces created by mima26, de raiz, projecto Tasa, associations of artisans of Monchique and Loulé, made in wood, ceramic, palm and cane. A lot of attention was paid to the details to make this house beautiful and functional.
Sonst alles prima, vielen Dank.
It’s exactly like the picture show. We felt immediately at home. The kitchen is well equipped. The two bedrooms and bathrooms great. We just liked the style and layout of the house. It’s in the middle of nowhere, except the cock (who starts unfortunately at 4 a.m.), you here just the chirr. We were lucky and had a lovely couple in the small apartment, which is in the back of the house. So we hardly heard them. The coast is 5 minutes (walk) away and perfect for a sundowner.
The house was exactly as pictured. A very nicely renovated farmhouse describes it best. It was So peaceful to hear only the roosters and the occasional donkey compared to the buzz Of Lisbon. Very nicely appointed overall. Our host Dina was very pleasant and took great care of us. There was a challenge with hot water however. Could only get hot water in the kitchen sink, so showers not so great.
One of Portugal’s protected natural parks, the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina, wraps around the Algarve's cliffy coastline along the Atlantic Ocean and into the Alentejo, covering a stretch of over 120km of lush greenery and wild fauna tucked amidst steep coastal landscapes. The coast, characterized by rugged rocks, boulders, sea stacks, sand stratified cliff faces caused by centuries of erosion, is perfect for long walks. Other inhabitants include fishing eagles and white storks.
It is ideal for practicing such activities as surf, biking, bird watching, climbing, hiking and walking through the network of fully marked walking and trekking routes in this part of the coastline. Surf schools are open all year around, and the best way to choose a reputable one is to check the Surf School Association of Costa Vicentina website. Schools are registered and follow the Association’s rules and regulations. We are just a few minutes away from Odeceixe beach, Amoreira beach, Arrifana beach and Monte Clérigo beach, all of them with surf schools in loco. Not far, is Amado beach and Bordeira beach, also well known for their waves. Besides these, you will find also quiet and beautiful beach such as Vale dos Homens beach or Carriagem beach, just a few minutes' drive from the property.
The food is also excellent around this SW coast where you can easily taste fresh seafood caught on the day or traditional Portuguese food and desserts. We are within minutes from Aljezur, which the agriculture land is known by producing the best sweet potato in Portugal. It is also the region to taste some alcohol beverages such as Medronho produced locally and the very new Gin Sul, done with local ingredients, but distilled in Hamburg. Wines from Algarve are also mounting in excellence and quality, but in local good restaurants it is common to find a great choice of wines from all the Portuguese regions.
Driving is the best way to get around and sightseeing the Vicentine Coast, especially if you are visiting it for the first time. You are minutes away from many pristine beaches, a breathtaking beautiful coastline, and cultural points of interest such as the historical centers, castles, fortress, Roman ruins and monuments, some Megalithic of Aljezur, Lagos and Sagres. Monchique is also a great place to visit with its spectacular views from the top of the ‘Serra de Monchique’ and great restaurants to stop along the hillside.
Nevertheless, the place is on the 'Rota Vicentina' (Fishermen's trail), so you will cross plenty of walkers, walking along the coastline for days. Bike riding is also popular around the area.
自我介绍
I am looking forward to be your host in the heart of the beautiful Costa Vicentina, part of a preserved Natural Park. The property is located in the least developed part of the western Algarve, with protected nature reserves, pristine beaches, wild coastlines and jagged cliffs. I will be delighted to share my knowledge about the portuguese culture and food, about the nature, experiences and activities that you can enjoy around here.
