The cottage is close to the sea, the beach and lovely Scottish towns and villages. Great scenery and fantastic walks. You will fall in love with it. You’ll love the cottage because of the spaciousness, size and airiness. It may be in the heart of the country but it has all mod cons, it's quirky and different yet wonderfully comfortable and cosy with wood burning stoves in two rooms . You might want to book the Bothy as well if you are four couples but it is listed separately so have a look. The dining, kitchen and main living area are all open plan and flooded with light. There is a huge wood burning stove in the living area but the central heating is efficient and the house is always warm and cosy. Because this is a home not a holiday rental it has everything you need for cooking and relaxing. Lovely crockery, cutlery, all cooking utensils, great cookery books. The shelves are also full of all sorts of useful herbs and cooking things. Feel free to use them.. if you finish anything then just replace it. I won't be at all precious about that sort of thing. There are lots of books and DVD's to watch in the television room. There is also projector so you can turn the living room into a sort of private cinema (just carefully take down the painting!) but please ask if you want to use that. The beds and mattresses are all brand new and super comfy. The bed linen is Egyptian 400 thread cotton and glorious to sleep in. You will be provided with towels as well. There is a washing machine and tumble drier, hair drier, nespresso coffee machine and frother for cappuccino. There are also Bose speakers if you have Spotify or your own music. There is of course wifi and sky - you will be told where to locate the access info. There are two bathrooms - one on the first floor and one on the ground floor. The first floor one has a bath the ground floor one a very good hot shower. There is a lovely garden with garden furniture and a hammock near the stream under the trees. There is a gas bottle barbecue in the shed if you want to use that. And two bikes if you'd like to use them. There is no fencing round the stream so it is your responsibility to keep children and dogs from going there. The garden is dog safe - unless your's is the type who would jump into the stream and run away or wriggle under the gate!
We had a wonderfully relaxing stay. Comfortable beds, a cook's kitchen and a garden full of birdsong to sit out in. We loved the artwork in the cottage - and Sue's recommendations on where to see more in Kirkcudbright. We went for some beautiful walks - some from the cottage and some further afield. Sue was a really helpful host and we loved the village shop - an absolute gem!
we had a wonderful 17 days to see our family who live in theVillage. Sue was very helpful. We loved the house and the fire.
Fabulous stay - lovely cottage - felt very much like a cosy home - great art work - bed linen . Stunning village with lovely walks . Lots of information left at the cottage about the area . Sue great communicator and very friendly - would definitely recommend , and her stunning new house in Kirkcudbright
Wonderful, inviting space for two couples. Lounge, kitchen, dining room, TV room and garden all exceptionally peaceful, spacious and relaxing. Really well equipped everywhere and lots of thoughtful and personal touches from the art to the portable speakers to the huge range of DVD’s. The house is ALL white - it makes it feel very calm and sets off the excellent choices of furnishings, artwork and fittings. The beds and bedding are very high quality. Outside: More than enough parking for two large cars. The local community store (3 doors away) is, as Sue says, an absolute marvel!
The countryside is the best thing about Auchencairn. You can walk out the front door and within minutes be in the bay looking out to sea. Just cross the road, go though the gate into the little community garden then through the football field alongside the river through the gate and follow the Hugh Paton signs. There is a bird hide overlooking the bay. Will leave notes for lovely walks. Castle Douglas is a twelve minute drive away .. a bustling little town. Great butchers, Tesco for all your basics. A FANTASTIC new artisan bakers - Earths Crust. Go for coffee, lunch afternoon tea and shopping to Designs in the High Street. Just potter about. Loch Arthur is another great place to go for lunch and a wee shop. Also just discovered the Steamboat at Carse something or other .. worth a visit but you would have to book. The Anchor at Kippford is great on a balmy summers night.
Kirkcudbright is the "Artists Town" and worth a day trip. Then there is Threave Gardens and many other gardens to visit if that is your interest. If you have children there are great walks and beaches to visit plus Cream O Galloway ice cream makers. If you are a cyclist there are many different places to go cycling. Endless fantastic walks - there are books in the house. There are not a huge number
You won't be able to stay at the cottage without your own transport. There are buses to both Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright - you will get the times from the shop. The shop is community run and you can get your basics there. The pub sadly is no longer open but there are some local pubs that are nice to visit - The Anchor in Kippford is lovely and I think the food is ok.. I will ensure there is more info at the cottage for you

I am a documentary film maker and I split my time between London and Scotland. When I am not in Scotland I make the Cottage and the Bothy available to rent through Air BnB. When I am in Bridgend I rent out the Bothy and when I am away I rent the two out together. Last year I bought a wreck of a house in Kirkcudbright because I wanted to have a project to keep me busy... It has taken a very long time but the Kirkcudbright house is now finished and available to rent. Sometimes I will stay there myself - because I love it so much - and sometimes I will be in Auchencairn. Auchencairn is a fabulous village right on the coastline and a great rural base for a stay in the area. Kirkcudbright is called "The Artists Town" and is a great base for a stay in the area too.. in the heart of the town and walking distance from all the signs and attractions of the town. I love this part of the world - it really is a wonderful place to stay or visit. I hope everyone who stays at one of the houses falls in love with the area as much as I have. Best wishes Sue
