I walked in to the cottage saying "oh how cute!". Everything needed for a stay is here from the comfy bed with heated mattress pad to the well equiped compact kitchen. The view from the windows is of rolling hills dotted with sheep and it's so quiet and peaceful. Mary left milk and eggs in the fridge and had loads of helpful info waiting. She was out of town for the weekend but we had a lovely chat Sunday night when she got home. There are not any shops or restaurants within walking distance but the location was convenient to all the Borders has to offer. If I ever find myself in this part of Scotland again I will certainly stay here again!

Our second time in this great spot, so restful and peaceful. As always we really appreciated Andy and Mary's personal touches: welcome note, fresh eggs and milk, cookies, and flowers. The beautiful surrounding countryside was teaming with wildlife and wildflowers; it was also the lambing season which was fun. We'll be back.

I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to go somewhere to unwind and find peace. Each day is greeted with sounds of the sheep in the farms or all the birds singing to one another... even the pheasants calling was calming. Having a little fire to cap off the night was a perfect ending to all the little walks I fit in during the day

Another lovely, peaceful stay at Hilltop. Although the lambing in progress provided excitement! Mary & Andy very friendly and welcoming hosts, Mary in particular concerned that we were comfortable, and providing useful local knowledge. We felt very welcome and at ease. The cottage is compact but well designed and just suits us. The weather wasn’t always kind, but the wood burning stove provides plenty of warmth when needed. The location, while remote and rural (ideal for peace and quiet) is very good for access to the Border towns such as Hawick and Melrose, and there is an abundance of attractions to be explored nearby. Highly recommended!

The cottage and it's surroundings are beautiful, was a lovely warm and cosy Basecamp for our adventures out in the windy rain. The farm area it's self is a nice place to walk around and hosts some very friendly animals such as Bobby the pony. Thank you Mary and Andy, your cottage made for a lovely retreat :)
