It's conveniently located less than one mile from Southwest Harbor's bustling village and fine shopping and restaurants, and Causeway Club golf, too. And then, wind down at the end of the day sitting with family and friends around the fire pit. MAIN HOUSE FIRST LEVEL: Hamblen House's wide front porch with seating and colorful, hanging flower baskets welcomes you. From the porch, access a small entry area with built-in bench seating, a coat closet, and a stylish half bath. From there the modern kitchen space has seating for 4 at the breakfast table, and generous space within the kitchen itself. The kitchen opens to the southern facing living room. It is light-filled, with details such as a unique coffered ceiling, inlaid wood floors and built-in bench seating. From the living room one may access the back yard to grill or sit around the fire pit. Adjacent to the kitchen find the large dining room and bar area, with seating for 8-10. SECOND LEVEL MAIN HOUSE: Upstairs there are two bedrooms. The master bedroom with queen sized bed sleeps two. There is an en suite bath with tub and steam shower, and a private balcony with seating which overlooks the backyard. The second bedroom has a cathedral ceiling and sleeps two more in single, twin-sized beds. These beds may be joined together to form a king. (Kindly request in advance if you would like this option.) This bedroom also has a private full bath with tub and shower, accessed both from inside this room or from the hallway. GUEST QUARTERS LAYOUT: A brick walkway leads you to Hamblen House's stylish guest quarters. The detached guest quarters are of post and beam construction yet feature modern styling cues. Two large bedrooms, each with a private entrance, share a small, fully-applianced kitchen and a full bath with tub and shower. One bedroom offers a queen bed, the other two full-size beds.
Carol's place was perfect for our party of four. Great location, clean, spacious, felt like home.
Beautiful main house with big kitchen and eating area. Cozy living room with lots of seating. Great location that is walking distance to downtown Southwest Harbor.
We had a wonderful time! The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything you’d need and the location was great. We loved Southwest Harbor so much. Carol had many recommendations for food and the park and all were spot on. The street is pretty busy and a little noisy (esp with windows open to keep the house cool) but you get used to it pretty quickly and it wasn’t an issue to get in and out of the driveway for us. Would definitely stay here again!
Mount Desert Island is home to Acadia National Park-- the most visited National Park east of the Mississippi River. Stay at our lovely home and enjoy this natural wonder: hike, bike, kayak, canoe, birdwatch, whalewatch, relax and renew.
Hamblen House is found on the western side of Mount Desert Island-- what we locals call "The Quietside." (Spend a day in downtown Bar Harbor and you'll understand!)
You'll want to have a car, though you can easily pick up the Island Explorer (free) bus by walking to the intersection of our road and Main Street-- about 3/10 of a mile. The bus will take you all over the island and into the park for free. Well worth it. If you want to visit Bar Harbor village it's a good way to get there and back, as you don't have to worry about finding a parking spot. We also recommend bringing or renting bikes while you're here. There are nearly 60 miles of biking trails within the park itself.
