My stay was awesome!! Everything was perfect, clean and very convenient. I appreciated the fast responses to a couple of questions and really enjoyed our stay.
This totally renovated home is an absolute jewel. Rebecca is an exceptional host and has thought through every detail. As a former air bnb host, I have high standards and she exceeded them. From the beautiful screened in deck to the fire pit-the outside of this home will keep you entertained. Then, there was the hours we spent playing foosball downstairs in the finished basement. The huge open kitchen has all the highest upgrades and made it easy for us to prepare meals. The basement is a great hideout for our teenage son and he felt like he had his own space. This home is also super close to the K-State campus. I highly recommend this property!
A great stay. Would stay again. There are not a lot of top tier air bnb's in this location. This place would rank in the top in the area. They have done a great job in making the home cozy and pleasant. My wife loved it even more than me. She thought the decorations were great. We were there during Christmas and they had a tree for our gifts to go under. It snowed while we were there and the home kept us warm, despite it being a very old home. The appliances were top notch. The only thing that you really can't call a downside, is the house has one t.v. in the basement. That could be a good or bad thing depending on how many family members are fighting over it. Btw, the basement was awesome. You have three levels to the home. Main floor, basement, and top floor. The bedrooms were all on the top floor. No complaints that I can think of. My whole family was happy with the location and quality of the home.
Sunset Cottage is tucked into the coveted Thackrey neighborhood and highly accessible from everything Manhattan has to offer: 0.5 miles from the K-State Alumni Center and Student Union; 0.7 miles from McCain Auditorium; 1 mile from Aggieville, Sunset Zoo, and the K-State sports complex (including Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Bramlage Coliseum, Tointon Baseball Stadium, Buser Family Park, R.V. Christian Track, and Mike Goss Tennis Stadium); 1.3 miles from City Park; 2 miles from historic downtown; 2.3 miles from the Flint Hills Discovery Center; 4.3 miles from Prairiewood Tallgrass Preserve; 5 miles from Colbert Hills and Stagg golf courses; and 7 miles from Tuttle Creek State Park.
Located just west of the K-State campus, the neighborhood around Sunset Cottage is highly walkable but with easy access to main east-west thoroughfare Anderson Avenue. The driveway has room for two vehicles, possibly more if they're smaller. Street parking is restricted due to the home's proximity to campus, but we do make one temporary hanging parking permit available to guests.

We operate a boutique hospitality company in our hometown of Manhattan, Kansas, where we have spent the better part of our adult lives crafting sacred spaces that capture the magic and enchantment of our favorite places. Currently, our offerings are located in Manhattan, Kansas and on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota. With both of us native to Kansas, we made our first foray to the Northwoods of Minnesota in 1994, shortly after being newly married. Little did we know that initial 5-night paddling trip, launched from the end of the Gunflint Trail outside of Grand Marais, would lead to a lifetime of pursuing the Northwoods and everything it represents. In Kansas, we now own and operate a tallgrass prairie retreat & preserve in the Flint Hills outside of Manhattan. Prairiewood Retreat & Preserve has become a labor of love for us, and we thrive on offering distinctive lodging and event venues, nestled into the rolling hills of this prairie landscape. We love the gentle beauty of the prairie - a sublime beauty the soaks slowly into your soul rather than hits you abruptly! We find the Northwoods of Minnesota to be similar in that regard. Whether the quiet lapping of waves against a rock shore, the distant haunting call of a loon, the silent rise of a full moon over Lake Superior, or the crackle of a wood fire on a frigid snowy night, we find the essence of the Northwoods to invigorate our hearts and spirits. We can't think of anything more fulfilling than sharing some of our favorite places in the world, in hopes that they will be as enriching to our guests as they are to us. Welcome to our little slices of heaven!
