Joel and I are avid cyclists and love to travel. We take our tandem and man’s best friend, Liza, with us whenever possible! We fell in love with the Airbnb concept on one of our frequent trips to Colorado and New Mexico. Staying in a home just feels more comfortable especially when traveling with a pet and a bike. On one of our stays we were fortunate enough to be hosted in a lovely home just off the Taos plaza. It was a fully remodeled grain mill converted into living space with brand new decor and furnishing all in the Southwest style. It was nicer and more comfortable than most hotels. We were hooked. It just so happened that Joel and I had just completed renovation of a 1922 bungalow in Midtown Oklahoma City. Did I mention my husband renovates historic homes? We had an aha moment that we could try our hand at Airbnb. That was the beginning of the Blue Bungalow in Jefferson Park. The location was perfect, we had completely renovated this home. We had limited experience in decorating (I’m a actually a nurse practitioner) but we had staged a few homes that we rehabbed and sold. With a little research and the help of Houzz and Pinterest we got started. The bungalow is super modern with bamboo floors and midcentury modern decor. Our goal was to create a modern and unique space that also felt warm and comfortable. One that you could actually live and entertain in. We discussed what items we felt were important to Airbnb guests. All of our properties have 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths as well as washer dryer units and garages. They all boast a Nespresso coffee maker and a toaster oven. Each bed has a memory foam mattress and super soft microfiber sheets to sink into at the end of your day. They are filled with pillows and throws and splashes of color. There are clocks, mirrors and lamps in every room. They all have a desk and a work area for business travelers. We are pet friendly and every home has a nice backyard. They all have gorgeous front porches. We had several long term rentals in the Edmond area that we were increasingly frustrated with. Tenants were leaving them in ruin. We decided to leave the long term rental market and invest in 3 more Airbnb’s. The Tudor came next. It’s style is completely different from the bungalow. Located in the Shepherd historic district this 1932 Tudor is absolutely stunning. It’s a mix of mid century modern with historic pieces like the gorgeous Duncan Phyfe dining table. The master suite even has a towel warmer! The Crestwood cottage and Butler place opened just weeks apart. Crestwood is a 1929 Tudor revival in the historic Crestwood addition located between OCU and the fairgrounds still just minutes from downtown. It also mixes modern pieces with antiques. It’s master suite is a true Tuscan retreat. It has an open airy feel and you can see through the entire house as you stand in the kitchen! Butler Place is last but not least. Built in 1922 it has been totally renovated with a new kitchen and 2 new bathrooms! We knocked out the wall between the kitchen and dining. We refinished all the incredible wood work and the end result is spectacular. We found some cool antique pieces like a turn of the century phonograph to accent the navy blue velvet sectional. If you love a front porch Butler Place is for you! We added a fire pit in the backyard to top it off. Our co host Pat Johnson makes sure each of our places are spotless on arrival and keeps Joel and I organized. I can’t thank her enough for the help and wisdom she provides. Joel, Pat and I are committed to making each guest comfortable and at home in our homes. We love hosting airBnb and being part of the growth and restoration of Oklahoma City.
