Baby equipment is available upon request. Sleeping accommodations are a downstairs queen-sized bed, with a king and a twin beds upstairs. The bathroom downstairs is shower-only and equipped with safety rails. The bathroom upstairs has a large clawfoot bathtub. There are steps to get into the house both in the front and back. Please, no smoking or shoes inside the house. Ignoring this house rule is cause for expulsion & loss of your entire deposit. The house will have up to 5 beds ready to be slept in, but for the rest, you will need to bring your own bedding or sleeping bags. Likewise, you'll need to bring your own tents to camp outside. Sleeping outside without a tent is fine, but from time to time, we do get nighttime visits by local wildlife. Did you know Eureka has an old-growth redwood forest in the middle of town? You’d be able to stroll to Sequoia Park & Flower Garden in less than a minute from your front door. California’s oldest zoo is right there too! Those otters and red pandas are adorable. And check out our art -Eureka is a California Cultural District! LONELY PLANET ranks Eureka #1! This is a great place to stay while working or visiting Humboldt County.
Eureka is a wonderful place to stay while working in the area or visiting - or fishing for the tastiest of all fish - Steelhead! Your proximity to everything Humboldt, Trinity, & Del Norte counties have to offer is an advantage to a home-base in Eureka. And this house is a lovely way of being centrally located and close to shops, yet quiet and rural.
There are so many things to do here ... Worldwide, we are known for the glorious Kinetic Sculpture Race & the Kinetic Universe - every May, after the Tall Ships sail in. June brings the [baseball] Crabs back, the Oyster Festival and the Trinidad Fish Fry. July has spectacular fireworks over the Bay, Rodeo Week, and the Folklife Festival. In August this is the best haven to avoid the heat everywhere else, go to the County Fair, Woofstock, run the Humboldt Bay Marathon, and watch the Dog Agility Trials. September is lovely on all of the rivers and for Cruz'N Eureka. October is very busy with even more than the Apple Harvest Festival and Pastels on the Plaza. November begins Crab Season, the Intertribal Gathering & Elders Dinner, and the Mushroom Festival. December has many holiday celebrations including the Symphonies, the Tractor & Truckers' Christmas Convoy, and the Tuba Santas. January has the mildest weather of anywhere, the Eureka Crab Celebration, and is the beginning of Steelhead Days for the tastiest fishing. February is the Inked Hearts Tattoo Festival and the Valentines Sunset Paddle. In March the Aleutian Cackling Geese "Fly Off", it's the educational and entertaining Dog Expo, plus the Redwood Coast Jazz Festival. April is for Godwit Days, the International Film Festival, and [Steam] Donkey Days. And the first Saturday of every month is Arts Alive!
Also, check out "Humboldt Made" for the many cottage industries that have gotten their start here ... Dick Taylor Craft Chocolate, Cypress Grove Chevre, Lost Coast Brewery, and Fire & Light glass are among the most beloved.
But here in Humboldt County, Nature rules. Humboldt State University recently won the honor of having the highest score on the nationwide "Get Outside" competition by Outdoor Nation.
The reason? The beach, the mountains (snow in winter!), the rivers, the redwood forests (zip-lining!), the ocean - all are very close by and easily accessed. Fishing (steelhead!!), sailing, horseback riding, jet boats, ocean fishing, kayaking, biking, running, camping, surfing....
Sky's the limit! Come and play!
Transportation via public Humboldt Transit buses is easily accessible, but on limited schedules. It is comfortable ~ which is great because it usually takes quite a while to get anywhere! Most busses have wi-fi onboard. There are a few local taxis and a shuttle to/from the Arcata/Eureka airport. Enterprise and Hertz have rental offices downtown. In a pinch, I'd be happy to transport you. Walking in Eureka is easy, and there are bicycles for you to use!
