Bring your pooch, the cove is dog friendly and, for guests looking to explore the wonderful coast, perfect for kayaking, hiking or rock pooling. Three steps lead up to the entrance, the hall leads to the comfortable sitting/dining room, where a roaring wood burning stove will warm your cockles following a day by the sea, gather around the dining table and plan the next days' adventures whilst enjoying a meal prepared in the well-equipped kitchen. The second sitting-room is also on the ground floor, perfect for the children to park up and watch the television, draw or play a game. Along the corridor you will find the master bedroom, decorated in neutral colours and the king size bed dressed with luxury linens. Just a step up from this room is the family bathroom and, next to that, the large wet-room and access to the steps up to the garden. Head up the open tread stairs to two further bedrooms both dressed with luxury linens and have sloping ceilings. One is perfect for children, with its low single beds and the second, good for adults with its double bed. Outside, to the rear of Rutherglen, steps lead up to the lawn, decked terrace and barbecue area; sit and take in the silence as you prepare an alfresco feast whilst the sun sets across the valley. We loved the cottage and it's location. The twin beds could do with upgrading as very squeeky and maybe not the most comfortable. We were not aware there was no parking but once unloaded this wasn't a problem. The shower is fantastic but rather smelly and the water pressure in both the shower room and loo pretty well non existant. We never found a family bathroom!! Just a loo and basin? All fine for 4 girls but not so sure for mixed group..
As a family with 6 adults (78-17 yrs) we enjoyed our stay at Rutherglen and would return, but it wasn’t accurately described. The cottage had character, bedrooms and lounges were a good size and the kitchen was clean. There’s no utility room though, washing machine is in an outbuilding, but basket & pegs were useful. On arrival, there were only 3 dining chairs plus a short, narrow, bench. The agent was very helpful and brought extra chairs so we could all dine at the table. The yellow bathroom in the photo didn’t exist and the family bathroom is just a small cloakroom toilet with no bath & a tiny basin. Thankfully, the shower was great, but it wasn’t in a wet room as described and again with another tiny basin. The lower garden terrace is covered with solar panels leaving the sloping upper level accessed by uneven steps, but rewarded by great views across the valley and with a large deck, seating and BBQ. Overall, it is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location and we enjoyed our stay.
Rutherglen made for a very good stay in a fantastic setting with the family. Literally a skip and a hop away from Porthallow beach and the fantastic five pilchards pub. You really couldn’t fault the location. The lounges, dining area and garden decking area of the house were perfect and beautifully presented which made for some comfortable and peaceful evenings. The kayak was a lovely touch and we had lots of fun launching it at low tide on the beach. We had some issues with the washing machine but Cornwall Hideaways were proactive though with attempting to resolve the malfunction and offered to pay to have our clothes washed at a laundromat. Plumbing could do with being addressed as the kitchen tap was close to falling off and the bathroom taps only produced hot water, the bathrooms are not as pictured does not include yellow-tiled bathroom with bath. With that aside, we loved it and how modern the interiors felt. We would absolutely stay here again.
