Free WIFI and parking on the street outside. Tarbert is incredibly friendly with some great restaurants, a couple of pubs and there are at least 5 festivals on per year! Our place is freshly decorated and is comfortable cosy living for a couple or single person. It's a lovely bright space with clear views across the village to the surrounding hills. The king sized bed, Egyptian cotton linen and black out blinds in the bedroom are all aimed at ensuring a great nights sleep! Our kitchen is well equipped with most things you'll need to be able to create meals during your stay - an oven, grill and halogen hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, decent sized fridge and freezer. There's plenty of pots and pans, crockery and cutlery, glass wear and utensils to make this a useful cooking space and we've included thinks like a coffee pot and stick blender for convenience. The shower room has an electric shower and heated towel rail. There's a separate bathroom with a toilet, sink, mirror and razor plug, plenty of storage space for any toiletries, fresh towels and this is also where the washing machine is kept. There's an iron, an ironing board and a hairdryer in the flat that you are welcome to use. Unlimited free WIFI There's a good sized cupboard off the hallway for hanging space and any extra storage required. The heating is electric wall mounted which keeps the flat cosy and there's a little movable fan heater too should you ever need a little boost of heat anywhere. It's worth noting, if you are visiting with friends or family for an event, we also have the flat opposite listed as 'Comfy and Central. Close To The Harbour'. The two places share the full floor and are separated by a private close landing. Ideal if you'd like to be close by but have your own space.
We stayed at Reagan’s place for a couple of nights on route to Islay. It’s a very cosy and comfortable bolt hole that we’d recommend
Reagan's apartment is in a great location. We stayed a few nights, cooked meals, had great sleeps. I would stay again
Overall, a great stay in a lovely location. Place has everything you could need in spite of smaller (but cozy) space. The bedroom skylight looking onto the stars is particularly nice.
Food and drink
Tarbert is a bustling fishing villiage and marina. There's always plenty of activity around the harbour and if it's fresh fish you enjoy then you've come to the right place. There are some great restaurants including the award winning 'Starfish' - a mear 100 yards away from the flat - where you can sample the many catches of the day along with a great wine list and cocktails. It's worth joining their mailing list as they sometimes do special wine pairing nights that are worth keeping an eye out for. There's the Fyne Deli on the corner - 20 yards from the flat - for a great flat white, breakfasts and lunches to take away, Cafe ca'dor round the harbour on the front that do the best cullen skink and pizzas. There's also a chippy, Indian takeaway and many of the local restaurants also do takeaway menus.
If you'd prefer to create you own dinners at home you can easily buy great local seafood from Prentices straight off the boat or there's a butcher in town. The Larder on the harbour street is a well stocked place for cheeses and deli fayre, fresh fruit and vegetables and there's also the co-op for staples and a reasonable drinks stock. There's a specialist whisky and spirits shop along the front to pick up a special bottle and there are sometimes tastings on offer.
Around the harbour
There are several galleries, craft shops, antique and second hand shops around the harbour.
Another lovely feature of Tarbert is that the local bylaws allow you to enjoy food and drink outside around the harbour. You can either buy one from one of the pubs or pop along to the coop and get yourself a bottle of something nice and sit and enjoy it at one of the picnic benches along the front. (glasses must be plastic and, of course, all litter must be taken away with you)
Walks
Tarbert is blessed with countless places to take a stroll. A quick march up to Tarbert Castle takes about 10 minutes from the flat. From there you can sit and take in the veiws or maybe continue up the well maintained lovely trails that take you further up the hill and veiws right down Loch Fyne. There are regular picnic benches and places stop for a rest. It's on the Kintyre way so if you are looking to walk further afeild there are plenty of options. There are also trails along the coastline in both directions to some lovely local beaches.
Beaches
Shell beach and White Shore are two lovely little beaches that are within 15-30 min easy walk from the flat. Great veiws over loch fyne and are great places to take a picnic and maybe have a dip. If you're happy to drive then Westport beach, towards Campbeltown, as spectacular. White sand and clear water it's a favourite with the surfers for a good reason. There's also many picturesque spots along the mainly coastal road on the way too and you can spot Ireland an a clear day.. You can drive in a loop that takes you through Campbeltown towards south end - again, lots of lovely beaches -and continue round the peninsular towards Cloanaig.
Boats and ferries
The marina is in the centre of the village so you can sit and watch the boats go by. If you'd like to get involved there are charter companies that will take you out for a trip. Try Loch Fyne Dive Charters. Another great day trip is over to the Isle of Ghiga - A short ferry trip and some wonderful local food producers including cheese and milk, ice cream and a great beachside restaurant make this a great place to visit.
During the summer months you can hop over to Arran from Clonaig or over to Portavadie from Tarbert, where there's a lovely day spa.
If you were hoping to get here by public transport there's a good regular bus service from Glasgow with links to Oban too.
By car it's worth noting that the most local petrol station to us is in Lochgilphead, 14 miles to the North.
