The double bedroom can be configured as a twin room with two single beds and comes with towels and bathrobes. Situated at the edge of Northumberland National Park, near the Heritage Coastline (an Area of Outstanding National Beauty) and the Scottish Borders, you are perfectly located to explore all the area has to offer. Set out on one of the many stunning walking or biking trails, stroll the unspoilt sandy beaches, visit some of the numerous historic and wildlife attractions such as Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle, the Farne Islands and Alnwick; wander around the pretty local market town of Wooler with its independent stores, or simply... relax.
Thoroughly enjoyed a 2 night stay with a friend for her birthday, the welcome basket of treats was a lovely touch. Andrew was very friendly & welcoming. Highly recommended the Guards Van for a peaceful, relaxing trip. 😁
As stated unique, quirky accommodation. Hosts very welcoming, friendly and informative. Welcome snack basket including a bottle of wine a lovely thought however personal preference would have preferred welcome breakfast basket! Bedroom configuration (double) not much room to manoeuvre, photos a little deceptive. All in all had a lovely couple of days stay.
Had an absolutely lovely stay at The Guard’s Van, great hosts, loved the attention to detail, down to the welcome hamper of food and drink including a bottle of wine. Looking forward to a return in the not too distant future.
The Guards Van is set on the grounds of old Akeld Station, opened in 1887 as part of the Cornhill to Alnwick line of the North Eastern Railway. Guests are 3 miles from Wooler to the East and Milfield to the north and at the foot of Northumberland National Park. Castles at Ford and Etal are minutes away in this area once known as the seat of ancient Kings.
