We had a lovely few days at Mary's home. The house is comfy and sweet, and had all you need for a summer stay. The weather was a bit rainy and foggy, which kept us from taking in more of the park but we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the house, watching and listening to birds, walking down to the beach through the meadow, and enjoying a home cooked meal, and playing cards. The walk to town is easy, nice shops and super friendly people. We look forward to a return trip (and sunnier weather!) to enjoy more of Mount Desert Island area.

This is a hidden gem, tucked away near the water and surrounded by trees, with beautiful views. Mary was super helpful and provided details about the cottage and things to do locally. Would highly recommend for summer and fall stays.

Lawrence cottage is a charming, well-kept and nicely-sized cottage just a stone's throw from Somes Sound. You'll love the incomparable views from the beach, as well as the cottage porch. This beautiful example of casual Maine living is kept in great repair by the owners and we found everything in the cabin to be thought through in order to provide as relaxing an environment as possible. Also, everything was immaculately clean and well kept. Decor is tasteful and the cottage is nicely equipped with all the kitchen utensils and cookware one needs for eating in, while the location is just a short walk from Southwest Harbor's restaurants and shops. The owners are accommodating and responsive as needed. Lawrence cottage's location on "the quiet side" means a less-hectic pace than in Bar Harbor, however all the attractions of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are just a short drive away. But beware: the relaxing nature of the environment and cottage, along with the views of the field and the water beyond may mean you'll never want to leave. During our stay we were treated to wildflowers blooming in the field behind the cottage, deer and other wildlife playing in the woods, and gazing at the boat traffic moving about Somes Sound. We enjoyed kayaking, hiking and eating at the many local restaurants, and because of the cabin's convenient location, all of this was readily available. At night, you'll love gazing up at the dark, starry skies above. We recommend the Lawrence cottage highly and are looking forward to returning.
