Unique location, really quiet yet right in the centre of the city, so much better than staying in a hotel. Pubs and restaurants in walking distance and next to Tower Pier for the river bus, a welcome change from travelling on the Tube. Would definitely recommend.
We booked as part of a birthday celebration and my husband requested a hotel with a river view. What could be better than a room with a river view than being on the River Thames with exceptional views along to Tower Bridge. We drank champagne on the foredeck and had breakfast in the historic wheelhouse making most of the fantastic views. The barge is a lovely cosy space and feels like a haven from the bustle of London after busy days sightseeing. As narrowboat owners ourselves we appreciated the history of the barge and the other vessels in the community. We really enjoyed the experience of staying on Maxime on the River Thames. Our family joined us for drinks and were made most welcome by Paul and John who were great hosts. The location is ideal with a short walk to pubs, transport and supplies from a nearby Waitrose. This would be our first choice for future visits to London. Many thanks to Paul and John for being fantastic hosts and making our stay so memorable.
This is a wonderful, special place along the Thames. We hesitate to review it too positively so as not to let the cat out of the bag on how wonderful this airbnb really is. Paul and John gave us wonderful tips about places to see, pubs to visit and historical information about their canal boat and the area of Wapping.
In all of my years visiting London I haven’t been or stayed anywhere as nice as this. The location is perfect for getting around, or staying local. The houseboat itself is incredible, you have to adjust to living afloat but that is part of the experience, would return in a heartbeat. Great hosts who couldn’t do enough for you. Forget hotels and land-living, this place is so much better.

Hi there Paul here - my four favorite things are barges, the Thames, London and architecture. I am very lucky that I can enjoy all of these and can now share them with visitors via airbnb. Four random selections from our collection aboard: CDs: Bach Cantatas, Eva Cassidy, Gipsy Kings, Massive Attack DVDs: Sunrise, When Harry Met Sally, Of Gods and Men, The Birds Vinyl: Stevie Nicks, Jim Reeves, Purcell, Lalo Books: Simon Raven, PG Woodhouse, Rem Koolhaus A keen amateur cook, I look forward to welcoming guests with a few treats. Travel for me is simple but comfortable - I take a lot of things with me to make life a little better (notorious for taking bentos on planes and refusing all provided in-flight food, much to delight of flight crew!). My favourite place to stay is Therme Vals designed by Peter Zumthor. I try to make regular pilgrimages to this shrine of food, architecture and relaxation - perfect in every way! I am passionate about sharing London and Maxime (our barge) with visitors and giving a unique insight into hidden London and life on the water. Look forward to welcoming you aboard. Paul
