When booking accommodation in Sikkim for our family holidays ( wife, 2 grown kids, and myself) this time, we thought of staying in homestay, partly to experience the culture as well as the low availability and atrocious rates in standard properties. When I found mr Rinzing's property on Airbnb, it had no rating and i was a bit skeptical. Thank god I took a leap of faith! One of the best holidays ever, was spent in his ancestral farmhouse ! An extremely helpful and genuine person, he even arranged our pick up from bagdogra at very reasonable rates. The homestay was everything a homestay should be. beautiful location, neat, spacious, awesome people and awesome food. My cousin wanted to join us at last moment, and Mr Rinzing arranged for that too! His family was super cool, and rally took great care of us. From arranging local sight seeing, to catering to individual tastes, to even strumming a guitar( yes!) it was all possible at Gyaltsen. Its a little away ( not much) form the standard touristy places of sikkim, so keep that in mind although the place has spectacular beauty

I travelled along with my wife and parents to Sikkim, and we wanted to experience and understand the local culture, food and activities. We knew we had to stay at a non-commercial place to experience this, so we booked the Gyaltsen’s Homestay for 4 nights. Our stay at Gyaltsen’s exceeded our expectations. We were the first guests at the newly opened homestay, and were warmly welcomed by the whole family. We will always remember the numerous conversations we had with the senior Mr. Gyaltsen on Sikkimese history and farming, the energy and kindness of our caretaker Pemu who looked after my mom when she fell ill, the trek to the local monastery and caves with Mr. Gyaltsen’s younger son Rinchen, and the attention to detail in making our stay memorable by Mr. Gyaltsen’s elder son Rinzing. These guys go out of their way to make you feel relaxed and enjoy your stay. We were treated to scrumptious local food and drinks at all times, and the prices were very reasonable. They grow most of their vegetables, and everything else is locally sourced. This place is not for everyone. You will need to hike a short distance on a forested path to reach the house, and every time you plan to go out sightseeing. The rooms are a little creaky, there are dogs and cats running all around the house, and we had to deal with frequent power cuts as we went in the monsoon. For those of us who can look beyond the minor inconveniences, and love to spend time living very close to nature, the Gyaltsen’s Homestay is a wonderful opportunity to get to experience the raw beauty and hospitality of Sikkim.
