1888 House was originally a barn on the RB Roosevelt Estate in Sayville. Although charming and historic, your stay will not be short of all modern conveniences and amenities. Central HVAC, radiant heating in the well appointed bathrooms, WiFi, private office space, either Apple TV or Roku in each bedroom and living room, remote gas fireplace, built in pool, fire pit, outdoor eating and lounging areas and barbecue. LIRR, dining, beaches, shopping and nightlife - all within 3-10 minutes away! Pulling into the circular driveway with ample parking for multiple vehicles - in the evening you'll find an illuminated path to the front door. Upon entering into the house you’ll be greeted by the charm that can only be found in a historic home. The 1888 House was not always a home, but a converted barn that once graced “The Lilacs” the estate of R.B Roosevelt, uncle to Theodore Roosevelt. The then barn was moved to its current location here in Bayport after the estate had burned to the ground around 1920. It has since been home to many families each with its own local history. You’ll find built in bookcases in both the living room and office space, a full wall brick fireplace - with remote control for modern convenience and a cast iron pot on the once working wood stove. The antique kitchen is complete with handmade cabinetry dating back to around the 1940’s. Each bathroom and bedroom has been updated, the mast now has a walk-in closet, and the laundry room has been added to the second floor. All that being said, we believe you’ll feel just as at home here as we have, as we’ve added many modern amenities without detracting from the charm.
