The unique and elegant villa is situated in the historical industrial district of Tabakaria, in a quiet cove, with a private pool and right next to the sea. Being a former tannery, it is a preserved building that was renovated in 2023 under the Greek regulations of the architectural composition of the first industrial buildings of the area, providing all modern comforts for an unforgettable stay. This is a 3 private bedroom villa with 3 large double beds. Two double beds can be converted into single beds upon request. In addition, 2 extra persons can sleep in couches. (We can also offer the service of heated pool at the extra cost of 40 euros/day and 2-3 day notice in advance)

We discovered true Cretan hospitality at this wonderful villa directly on the waterfront of Tampakaria, the historic leather tanneries district. With three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a well-appointed kitchen, stylish furnishings, and a heated pool, we did not want to leave. Views from the rooftop are outstanding. There are two seafront restaurants and a cafe only footsteps away, and it's only a 20 minute walk to the Chania seafront. Parking is available directly outside of the villa; however, drivers unacquainted with Chaelpa's narrow roads may want to rely on their feet. The Synka supermarket and a neighborhood bakery are a short walk away, as is the Archeological Museum of Chania and the Eleftherios Venizelos House. Yannis is extremely responsive and provides excellent support and guidance. This villa truly is a gem.

Tanneries were created in the middle of the 19th century as leather processing factories also known as “tanneries”.
The main installations of the buildings were made during the Egyptian rule (1830-1840) while their location was chosen according to the assumption that it was far enough from the city of Chania next to a shallow sea, the water of which served in the first stage of the processing of the skins.
The Tabakaria flourished during the interwar period. They stopped operating during the German Occupation to make a strong comeback after the end of the war. The decline of Tabakarias came gradually in the 1970s until today only one tenth of them operate as businesses.
Today most of the tanneries are abandoned while some of them have changed use. The only element that has remained untouched by time is the imposing architecture of Tabakaria. The buildings have an entrance from the road and from the sea side are two or three steps.
