This Airbnb was perfect for a getaway from Dar. It is far enough out to feel like you have traveled (but not too far to feel you can’t afford the travel expense). The rooms are so beautifully decorated with a mixture of old and new for a quaint, beach feel. The kitchen… oh I will dream of this kitchen for the rest of my life! The staff was helpful and kind. The communication was quick and clear. Need to get away but don’t want to go too far… this is the place for you!

We visited over Christmas with 2 families (4 adults and 8 children, all under 9yo). Overlooking a lagoon about 10 km south of Kimbiji beach, the property has amazing sea views and features 4 large bedrooms (split between 2 houses), a large kitchen, and a large terrace/lounge for hanging out. The kitchen has 5 gas burners, allowing for substantial cooking. The water is potable (per the owner), which meant no need to carry water. We used a small grassy area in front of the terrace to play sports with children. Because the infrastructure is up on the hill you get a nice breeze. There are few nearby houses so you have real peace and quiet. The lagoon, which is reached by walking down a fairly steep bush trail (not ideal for the very young or old), is great for walks at sunset, but not ideal for swimming. The best beach in the area that we found is at Kimbiji (there may be one closer). This requires a drive (about 15 min), which is the limitation to this place. The house design is really modern and well thought-out, and the owners have a collection of dhow furniture that is lovely. Beautiful outdoor showers in each house were loved by all. Overall we felt the term 'rustic' described the setting, as some upkeep is clearly needed. For example, bednets had some holes and mosquitos were common, the area behind the house was used to collect some debris and burn things, and the furniture could use some restoration. Also, there are no fans and electricity is via solar panels. Some in our group suffered from the heat-humidity at night, while others were fine. Overall, in our opinion this is a good value for money, self-catering option that deserves a lot of visitors, including folks escaping Dar Es Salaam.

If you're looking for a rural getaway far off the beaten track then this place is perfect! We absolutely loved our group stay here. The cottages are stunning, beautiful view and great kitchen for a big feast with friends! Just pay particular attention on the drive down, it's easy to miss the turning and the fork in the road, luckily the guards were really helpful at guiding us down!

I live in Dar and highly recommend Yale Yale Beach Cottages for that long weekend get away from the hustle and bustle of Dar life. I went with a group, 9 of us in total and there was plenty of space to sleep and spread out in the communal sitting/dining area. The views of the sea and bay are utterly breath taking and reach as far as the eye can see. Both Hadji and Fatma were very helpful and welcoming and when we ran out of beer and eggs Hadji helped us restock by going into the village, thanks Hadji! All rooms were clean with fresh linen and towels and the kitchen well stocked with crockery, pots and pans. We particularly loved the beach and the lagoon which we wallowed in with drinks carried with us from the house. We saw no one on the beach or at the lagoon apart from a distant fisherman! Im definitely going to visit again very soon, thanks Sarah for a memorable and peaceful stay :)
