Fancy a luxurious glamping break in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with myriad walks and cycle routes all around you? Alderwood Glamping might just be the spot you’re looking for. With fabulous rural views all around, the site is a 10-minute walk from escarpment trails leading into Carding Mill Valley and 15 minutes’ drive from the Ragleth Hill Circular route. Please ask us if you would like to book more than one, we have 4 bell tents on site! Each bell tent sleeps up to 4 people, 2 adults and 2 children. This is a small site with just a few bell tents three fields away from gravelled car parking. In good weather, you can drive down to the neighbouring field, but otherwise the owners are on hand to help you transport luggage to and fro. Creatively kitted out with picnic tables, handmade beds and boho bed linens, the tents are comfy, welcoming retreats with storage space, chairs and cosy blankets for an unforgettable stay – just the thing for romantic breaks under the star or families wanting a countryside catch up. The cute decor is prettied up with bunting – by night fairy lights sparkle and there’s a wood-burning stove to keep you all toasty. And although it’s an off-grid spot, soothing hot showers (great after a day yomping across Shropshire hills), toilets and cooking facilities are at your disposal. In each bell tent: - BBQ/Firepit, an outdoor seating area and a portable gas hob. There is also a fridge/freezer available at the top of the site which you are able to use. - All cooking essentials. Pots, pans, plates, cutlery, etc. - Double bed with all bed linen provided. Two single airbeds for children with bed linen. - Wood burner with one bag of logs provided. There is the use of shared bathroom facilities. 2 bell tents share one toilet and hot shower. Bell tent name: Woodpecker
Outdoor types can head off into the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty direct from the site, for numerous walks and cycling routes from easy to challenging. Expert mountain bikers test their nerve and skills on steep courses at Shropshire Hills Mountain Bike and Outdoor Pursuit Centre, or for a more sedate day out play a game of golf (both 20 minutes’ drive) or saunter up Ragleth Hill (15 minutes) for 360-degree panoramas.
Mix in a bit of history with all these outdoor activities: discover Stokesay Castle, a fortified medieval manor surrounded by a moat, on a free audio tour. There are more magnificent Shropshire Hills AONB views from the spindly, hilltop Flounders’ Folly (both 25 minutes), and interpretive signs at Clun Castle (40 minutes) teach you all about this former border-defence fortification slowly crumbling into ruins.
You’ve also got a brace of delightful market towns to explore. Ludlow is packed with half-timbered buildings, indie shops and romantic pubs for cosy lunches, all overlooked by an 11th-century castle open for touring. Shrewsbury (both 40 minutes) has a charming mixture of half-timbered and Georgian architecture, plus walks along the River Severn, a rose-pink castle and a soaring medieval abbey.
